Supporting Cast
The world of Thedas has always been torn by war, strife, and political intrigue, complicated by the powerful forces of faith and magic. Before the beliefs of the Andrastian Chantry spread across the world, the Ancient era was filled with many world-shaking events, and things have not been any easier on the people of Thedas in the more than eight hundred years since the end of the Ancient era. Four Blights, horrible invasions of corrupted creatures known as Darkspawn from beneath the surface of the earth, have threatened to end existence for all other life over those many hundreds of years, and each time the forces of darkness were barely beaten back by the members of one united force- the Grey Wardens.   The Grey Wardens, an order of elite warriors stretching back for most of recorded history, are trained for the specific purpose of fighting Darkspawn and ending Blights, specifically by slaying the Darkspawn Archdemon...a terrifying and near-immortal creature that leads each Blight. More than 400 years have passed since the Fourth Blight and the numbers of the Grey Wardens have dwindled in peacetime, their exploits of old now believed by many to be the exaggerations of legend.   The year is now 9:30 Dragon, the thirtieth year of the ninth named era after the end of the Ancient Era, the Dragon Age. You find yourselves in the Kingdom of Ferelden during a difficult time for the country- the stormclouds foreshadowing civil war are stirring, and the Landsmeet, a formal debate and vote among the land's nobility, is preparing to converge in Ferelden's capital of Denerim. In the Deep Roads, the last surviving Dwarven Kingdom of Orzimmar has sealed itself off from the Surface for unknown reasons, even rejecting most traders and craftsmen that usually visit there. Similarly, the Ferelden Circle of Magi has shut itself off from the world, the boatman who ferries visitors to the tower outright refusing to carry anyone across its lake. A mysterious illness seems to have struck the influencial Arl of Redcliffe, keeping him from attending the Landsmeet...or protecting Redcliffe from nightly threats to its citizens' lives. Deep in the Brecilian Forest a clan of nomadic Dalish elves tarry, many of their number deathly ill from a mysterious disease and desperate for treatment. A Grey Warden fortress stands abandoned, eyed by many but supposedly too haunted to claim. And in Denerim, tensions between the city's elven Alienage and nobility are rising, leading to the Alienage being sealed off even as the elves living there are threatened by disease. Everywhere throughout Ferelden spies, bandits, and assassins roam, seeking out their personal prizes and searchig for opportunities, and people, to take advantage of.   It is here that you find yourself- 9:30 Dragon in the Kingdom of Ferelden. It's cold and damp here, and the people are rustic and hearty, greatly mistrustful of magic, and incredibly proud of their country and heritage. Despite everything happening around you, you have simply been living your life up to this moment, following the path you had always seen laid out before you...but very soon you will discover that your life before now has only been the beginning, your origin story, and the true story, the great adventure of your life, is about to unfold...
