Arriving in Saltmarsh

General Summary

In which we remember humans are Racist

The party arrived to the Town of Saltmarsh and entered through the gated road at around mid day. Human guards directed them to the three inns – the Wicker Goat, the eldest inn, the Snapping Line where the merchants stayed when passing through, and the Empty Nest, a good place to catch some flees.   Not entirely sure where to pick up work, the party investigated the Wicker Goat first, seeing as it was closest. Finding it mostly empty, the inn keeper answered their questions about the town in general, and was forthcoming with what information he had. Lankus mentioned an island of evil clerics that had lost a fight with pirates, leaving behind an island of undead to be dealt with, as well as a customer of his named Manistrad, who he claimed would know more about the mining operation in town, and if any work needed to be done. Manistrad, he said, would likely return after sundown.   After a drink, the party moved to the Snapping Line, where they were met with much more intense scrutiny. The conspicuously all human clientele openly stared at the party, but the bar maid, Hana Rist, was able to confirm that a client of hers named Aurbuck was looking to hire a crew for a salvaging job. Osemin examined the local job postings, seeing the Town Council calling for some unknown sort of emissary, payment on request, and the local mines hiring "at the usual rate". Though Guy Fieri was able to chat with a few less hostile customers, the patronizing yet suspicous mood drove the party out rather than wait for Aurbuck.   They examined the Sharkfin bridge, as Brine had felt uneasy when crossing it. He detected a slight curse, confirmed by an elf named Korin who fetched them off the bridge, in case they made a sceen casting magic out in the open. Korin confirmed the bridge had a mild curse of the evil eye put on it when the humans took over- "they walk over it every day and get the evil eye; a good joke!"   Korrin lead them away to the Empty Net, what seemed to be his usual drinking hole, and was able to answer some basic questions, helping out some fellow non-humans. Korrin answered Brine's questions, while Guy Fieri occupied himself stealing little trinkets.   Osemin was able to meet with other halfings, and after some time was able to convince them she was on the shadier side of the law. They mentioned the humans claimed to have found the Fire of the Deep, an artifact rumored to be able to provide infinite power. While the halfings did not believe the humans had the actual Fire of the Deep, a likely mythical power, they do believe whatever the humans do have to be worth stealing, and will pay for any information about it.   The party ended at around 2pm outside the Empty Nest, ready to plan their next move.
