The Aftermath

General Summary

Exhausted, the party was able to only focus on finding a place to rest. Midway Island was crowded with the inhabitants of Mathair's Hearth, and pushing through the stagnant crowd was its own challenge. The first few inns they stopped at were already filled to the brim with refugees, so they pushed further into Midway Island. A few miles down, the crowd was thinned - not yet spread out along the island- and when the party walked into an inn, they found there were still rooms. The inn keeper had people help them and their things up to the room, and sent up food, and drew baths for anyone who wanted it. They were clearly not focusing on commerce, but triaging the incoming refugees.   After a while, the innkeeper came up to tell them a stranger was asking for them by name. Confused, they went downstairs and found a tabaxi sitting at the bar. Casually entertaining herself by batting things off the bar, the Tabaxi identified herself as Piece of Puzzle, a Faithful Quartermaster of Vanir. She was there delivering their tickets, so they can leave the Dwarven Atol and move on to their next job.   Piece of Puzzle spoke like the party were established members of the Quartermasters, and at their confused questions and general uncertainty, so she made sure to stress the basics of being a Quartermaster to the party. They were especially told to always protect children, and failing to do so, or failing to uphold the mission of the Quartermasters, other Quartermasters would be sent to hunt the party down.   As Piece was leaving, Guy put-pocketed some string into Piece's pocket. She noticed immediately, but took it out and cheerfully making a cats cradle as she walked out the door.   The party rested for the evening, and woke up in the wee hours of the morning to catch the train. While they weren't charged for the evening, Guy left 5 gold on the counter for the innkeeper.   A large crowd was waiting to get on the last known train leaving the atol. With their tickets, the party was able to get into the station. Tethrys, overwhelemed, left at the last moment and gave the ticket to one of the dwarves trying to get on the train.   Emotionally and physically exhausted, the party didn't fight it, and got on the train as it arrived. The only compartment they could sit it also had a small gnome, Lyra Pilwicken. She spacily watched out the window as they came in, but cheerfully asked the party questions about where they were going, and shared Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins, eventually telling Guy "You have basil- I trust you."   She agreed to travel with the party, looking for a library with new recipees.

Notes

The party leveled up at the begining of the session.   Assuming trains run at 125.88 mph, the train ride from the Dwarven Atol to Maneas takes around 12 hours.
