Session 46: What a fun guy. Report

General Summary

Session 46 – Wednesday August 2, 2023 – The Fun Guy

4.5 Hour Battle session 5:30 PM to 10:20PM

The Stone Bearers. Party of 5

It is the 5th day of the month of Nightal (The Drawing Down) in the 50th year of the Age of Enialis (Early December.)

Trader’s Camp

Thomas sneezed; Ajani appeared and Juan and Gazlowe disappeared. Ajani had been watching the events from the Ethereal plane and asked to examine the tan brick they had found. Noticing what the Druid Cleon was wearing, Abrash felt ashamed, and he doffed his armor and gave it to Juan. Cleon helped Abrash update his map of the area helping them find their way back to the other side of the swamp more easily. They finished lunch and headed off. The day was unusually cold, and the ground was partially frozen, something Abrash and Ajani had never seen before.

About 2 hours into the journey, they came upon a well-traveled trail at the edge of the swamp and forest. Following the trail for a little way, they came to a wagon of supplies. Beside the wagon they spotted a camp of 4 elves sleeping next to a campfire that had gone out. Abrash cast detect thoughts and didn’t detect anything. Abrash warned the others. Ajani peered into the wagon and saw it filled with supplies that you’d find in a store. The elves were not wearing garb of the elves in the forest, they appeared to be wearing garb more indicative of the cities of men, indicating they were merchants bringing wares into the forest to trade with the elves.

Ewww!

Abrash rolled over one of the bodies assuming they were dead. The elf’s mouth opened, and a hoard of spiders came crawling out. The chest cracked and more spiders came sprawling out. Abrash saw the spiders coloring matched the surrounding forest, he looked up and saw a large spider, the size of a horse, move within the trees. It screeched and 5 other swarms emerged from the other bodies, the horse, and the food containers in the wagon. Two of the swarms covered Abrash and attacked him. 3 more Large spiders emerged from the woods. Ajani cast dragon’s breath and hit 2 of the swarms and one of the large spiders. One of the swarms burned to death. Thomas sneezed and Juan appeared.

Thomas lit up a whip and struck the spiders. Abrash took out one of the swarms with a fire bolt. One of the large spiders bit into Abrash but he avoided some of the poison. Two swarms attacked Thomas. Isabella raged and swung her axe at the large spider near her, badly bloodying it. Juan pointed Bird to the large spider. Excited at a huge meal, Bird clawed, and the large spider and Juan finished it off with his lance. Another large spider saw its friend die and it ran towards Bird. The large spider attacking Abrash took another bite and again Abrash avoided some of the poison. Ajani telekinetically pulled Abrash out of the spider swarm and shot a chromatic orb over their heads.

Thomas Smacked one of the big spiders with his whips. Abrash hit one of the large spiders with a guiding bolt. One of the spider swarms bit Thomas. Isabella critically hit one of the large spiders brining it near death causing it to bleed. The bird struck the same spider and then Juan swung but missed. Another spider was about to bite into Abrash, but Thomas blinded it and it missed. However, one of the swarms attacked Abrash and left him near death. Ajani grabbed a piece of Helium and cast a chromatic orb and massively healed Abrash.

Thomas cast shield of faith onto Abrash to give him little more aid. Abrash tried to flee the spiders but all of them struck at him and brought him close to death again. He ran back to Ajani and said, “Thanks for the heal.” But Ajani noticed that he now looked worse than when he healed him. Abrash cast faerie fire on the spiders but only hit two. One of the spiders struck at Bird but Juan caused the spider to hit him instead, saving his War Rooster’s life. One of the spiders hit Thomas again and Isabella then finished off the spider with her axe. Isabella critically hit one of the other large spiders, bloodying it. The war rooster too critically hit the same spider and Juan followed up with a jab from his Lance.

Man down!

One of the large spiders darted at Abrash and his fangs were barely able to pierce his protective armor. Only a little of the poison seeped into his veins but it was enough. Abrash turned even paler than anyone thought possible, his eyes rolled back into his head, and he fell backwards onto the ground, unmoving. As the fangs withdrew from Abrash’s chest, the spider turned to Ajani and all its eyes shifted and stared at Ajani’s chest. Ajani had a headache and knew his next orb will hit directly into its head. He leaned down and released a powerful chromatic orb up at its head. The orb decimated the spiders head and continued straight into the sky and then out of sight.

The spiders swarmed Thomas and bit into all parts of his body. Thomas, barely standing (only 2HP,) critically hit the large spider with his whip, obliterating it. Only the swarms remained but with the large spiders all dead, the swarms struggled to focus their attacks and missed. Isabella sliced into the swarms with her axe and destroyed one of them. Thomas used his reaction to remove the swarm’s resistance to the slashing damage of the axe. Juan smited another of the swarms and wiped it out.

Ajani ran to Abrash and fed him a potion of healing. He was stable but Abrash remained unconscious. Isabella continued slashing at the last swarm until she destroyed it. She then ran to Thomas and fed him one of his healing potions. Thomas woke up. Thomas went to Abrash and discovered that the spiders didn’t kill Abrash but simply paralyzed him so they could lay their eggs. Juan casually rode Bird over to Abrash and then leaned over and touched Abrash’s nose, restoring a few points of life and neutralizing the spider poison.

What the traders have.

Thomas extracted 2 of the poison sacks from the spiders (5d8 dmg DC12 CON save for ½, any creature that drops to 0 from the poison is unconscious and paralyzed for 1 hour.) Abrash and Thomas took a short rest and Abrash cast goodberries 3 times and healed themselves up. Isabella buried the elves. The party then went through the wagon and collected some mundane items.

Camping before they face the Orcs.

Abrash lead the party through the edge of the swamp and forest. Abrash noted that the party was in bad shape and facing the Orcs would be bad. The party decided to setup a camp an hour’s walk away from the Orcs. It was only 4:30 in the afternoon and the weather warmed up dramatically. The party stopped and setup camp and rested. Isabella wanted a hat. She went into the woods and spotted 2 dire squirrels. The large squirrels ran up to Isabella and attacked her. She grabbed the first one, broke its neck and then beat the 2nd one to death with the body of the first.

They sat around the campfire eating squirrel and Isabella made a hat that wasn’t so good. She saved the 2nd skin for Gazlowe to make a nicer hat. The party relaxed and shared bits of information about themselves. Abash talked about how he learned stargazing and used it to help people lost in the desert. Ajani told everyone his childhood nickname “noodle arms” because of his performance in Gym class. Isabella talked about her well-known Ancestor Uncle Philihoe who was the first to go out after Heffalumps.

Thomas explained that having a well thought out plan come together will always put a smile on his face. Juan explained that he doesn’t have a good relationship with his family because he enjoyed eating the stone in their houses. As a result, he’s been written out of all their wills. Juan put on the scale mail of poison resistance and the party all fell asleep.

The Last of Us (Orcs spin off)

The party walked for an hour and made their way to the area where they heard the commotion previously. They didn’t hear any commotion but saw a slew of dead orcs on the ground under a large fungus covered tree. The bodies of the orcs had gaping wounds, cracked skulls and were covered with fungus. As the party approached, the bodies twitched and rose. Each orc covered with brightly colored fungus. From the tree they saw several Myconids step from large fungal growths. Juan cast Bless on the group as the Spore servants began to approach.

Thomas hit two of the spore servant minions and they exploded into a cloud of spores. Isabella shot her heavy crossbow and hit one of the Myconid sovereigns with two bolts. One of the Deathcap Myconids shot a cloud of spores at the group. The War rooster started retching and reeling. The war rooster ran up to the Myconid and Juan hit it with his Lance. The one next to Thomas punched Thomas hard. Abrash cast plant growth covering all the creatures and Thomas, preventing all the enemies (and Thomas) from moving quickly.

Thomas was hit by a ray of sickness and was poisoned. Ajani ran from the spore cloud and saw a line of Myconids all in a row. Ajani shot a lightning bolt, and it took out 2 more of the minions. Thomas hit the Myconid next to him. Isabella continued firing crossbow bolts into the creatures. Juan got punched by one of the Myconids while other Myconids slowly moved to everyone through the entangled vines.

Juan and his war rooster “Bird” attacked the Myconid in front of him. The creature exploded and did a bit of poison damage to Juan and Bird. The Sovern continued hitting Thomas and poisoned him. Thomas was starting to look bad. Abrash killed one of the creatures and healed Thomas. Another of the Myconids cast stinking cloud on the party. Ajani, outside of the cloud, cast a chromatic orb at one of the Myconids and hurt it badly, he then pushed it back telekinetically. Thomas shrugged off the poison affecting him but then missed all 3 hits against the Myconid. Isabella took out the Sovereign attacking Thomas and then fired a shot at another. The war rooster moved into the overgrowth and Juan hit one of the Myconids.

Another man down.

A Myconid Deathcap moved next to Thomas and punched him hard. Ajani hit the Deathcap hard with a chromatic orb and the Deathcap released poison spores on Thomas. Thomas struck the creature and the poison spores released by the Deathcap knocked Thomas unconscious and he went down.

Isabella took down one of the Myconids. Abrash brought Thomas back up and then hit the Deathcap causing more poison damage to Thomas. The Myconid in front of the War rooster, stunned it. The Deathcap next to Thomas hit him hard and Knocked Thomas down again. Ajani hit the Deathcap, and a cloud of spores came out. Isabella walked forward in the overgrowth and struck one of the Deathcaps with her axe. She took a bit of poison damage but didn’t seem to mind. Juan healed his war rooster. Abrash considered healing Thomas or attacking the Deathcap Myconid next to him. He decided to attack the Deathcap first, releasing poison spores over the unconscious Thomas. Then he healed Thomas, but Thomas remained on the ground. He was dead.

Ajani got hit by the other Deathcap and the spores made him fall unconscious. Isabella killed the Myconid next to Ajani and Abrash revived Ajani. Ajani sat up and shot a spell at the Myconid next to the dead Thomas and killed it.
