Tower in Nanliure Report

General Summary

The session begins with the castle at Barghurst collapsing as the party watches the stones crush the body of Brigid Hearthkeeper, unable to save their travelling companion. Once the dust had settled, the party extricated themselves from the pocket plane provided by Lena and realize the impact of the fight that just ended. Del is in shock and Brigid has died. Gog gets to work on digging through the rubble to find the mutilated dwarven body of Brigid's corpse. Gnasher joins him in the hole and takes Brigid's holy symbol dipped in her blood and taking the valuables from her body. Gog removes a piece of her armor then carries what's left to the peak of the nearby mountain to bury her body. The party returns to the town to rest and recuperate, finally remembering that Jarret had also died in the collapse (he was hiding in the kitchen during the fight). The following morning they are awakened by an explosion at the docks. Fearing that their boat had been destroyed, they rush to see what happened and find that a different boat had moored opposite their boat and had exploded, blowing shrapnel into the hull of the party's boat. In the middle of the docks a woman, who looks to be Drow at first glance, stands in horror of what just happened. The party converses with the Drow until Del shows up to see what's happened then announces that she and Oran will be leaving shortly to see if she can help with the aftermath of Velania's attack on her home town of Nanliure. The party agrees to join her and the Drow decides to join them, taking an interest in Del. They travel for 4 days into the mountains to the town of Nanliure. Shortly before arrival the party encounters a raging thunderstorm that's been dumping on the town for days and doesn't seem to let up any time soon. However, to Del's delight, the town appears to be mostly intact, although damaged. Del takes everyone to an enormous manor house and walks inside without knocking and begins to relax. Gog and Gnasher "make friends" with the butler while the party winds down after so much travelling. The next day comes and Del checks in with several key members of the town, the party in tow. They find that griffins have been routinely dropping rocks on the town making the continuous storms even less bearable. The party decides to find another way up to Velania's tower through the forrest, since the normal path has been destroyed due to the excessive storms. On their way up the mountain, they come across a hunting party of half-orcs and decide to hide. This didn't go very well and the half-orcs take notice of the party and approach, weapons at the ready. However, before a fight breaks out, one of the half-orcs calls out to Gog with an old nickname. Gog recognizes Morgnuzz, a childhood friend and tensions relax. Gog and Morgnuzz catch up and the rest of the party ask about the nearby area to find out that the half-orcs tend to stay away from this place due to the giant in the tower. So the groups part ways as the party heads up the mountain to come down the slopes to the tower. The party takes a tumble down the slope towards Velania's Tower and begins to take stock of the area. They quickly find the door and begin to take a look at it. However, things don't go to plan and they alert Velania to their presence, so the fight begins. It's a grueling battle where griffons harass the party and their allies and Velania crushes others with boulders and her flail. It seems to be coming to the bitter end, when almost everyone is on the ground unconscious, that the final blow is struck and Velania falls. Recovering from the battle, everyone is healed to a point they can move and begin to plunder Velania's tower. They find riches, information and the occasional magic item as well as Velania's gigantic flying boat, the Cloud Dancer. They use the Cloud Dancer to return to Sasha's estate only to be met with a shocking pair of guests. Gog's fiance and mother have traveled down to the mountains to find Gog, who has been missing for several months, and marry him. After an interesting reunion, the ceremony happens in the back yard of the estate.
