Tomb of Giants Report

General Summary

The next day the party wakes to a disgruntled goliath strapped to a chair. He is very frank and offers up any information they would like in exchange for his release and continued life. This is immediately refused and a counter offer of pain and death is provided if he does not begin to talk. The goliath remains stubborn, so the party drags him outside where another surprise awaits them. The woman that Lena spoke to is waiting for the party flanked by a massive, white wolf. She introduces herself as Del and tells the party that the goliath is called Klegain. She also asks the party to help her slay the giantess that ordered her and Orsik to kidnap Clash almost a month ago. She explains that the giantess named Velania is holding her town hostage so that Del will continue to serve her. Meanwhile, Jade looks for a way to make breakfast and Gnasher watches from inside the door of the inn. Eventually, Gnasher and Jade join the group outside (Jade immediately attempting to make friends with the wolf, who is not having it) and eventually give an bumbling agreement to Del's plight and securing her help in rescuing Clash. So, everyone makes their way to the castle and find out that Orsik has been with Clash attempting to do something in the lower levels of the castle. Upon arrival, the magnitude of this structure is realized. This is a small castle made by and for giants, it is staggeringly massive and exquisitely crafted. They party immediately begin to explore and search the castle for enemies and their quarry of several weeks, except for Gog. Gog is instantly distracted by the fully furnished forge on the grounds of the castle that even includes some tools, he must be pulled away to join the search. They find master bed chambers, a kitchen, an open tower throne room and gathering area, a sky dock, and several other rooms. However, Brigid notices a relief carving that seems to represent the several types of giant, but something is off about it. They find that this is an entryway into the catacombs and begin to explore it. They come across a room of mirrors and find that one of the mirrors is a hidden door that leads down a dark passage to a small crypt beneath the throne room. This is where they encounter Orsik and his henchman forcing Clash to work on the crystal, Gnasher fires an arrow and begins combat. Things are going well, until Jade instinctively reaches for her flute and begins to play it. As the music begins her form shifts, Jade becomes fiendish and wings sprout from her back. Jade is no longer present as this new entity takes control and attempts to escape by messing with the crystal at the center of the chamber ahead. Clash is able to free himself, but is affected by the charms of this new entities charms. The fight continues as the henchmen are destroyed, but Clash eventually frees himself from the charm and identifies the flute as the source of this new entities presence. He removes it, bringing Jade back and ending the fight. The party discovers that they have 2 days to prepare for the arrival of Velania. During this time, Jade befriends Oran and Brigid places glyphs of warding at the entrances. On the day the party prepares to engage in the main hall of the castle and Jade waits at the top of the spire acting as a look out. Velania arrives in a gigantic flying ship and activates one of the glyphs as she departs the vessel. Combat begins anew as Velania summons her henchman and pet griffons. Things go well until Jade can't resist the call of the flute again and makes a move for the flying ship. Velania immediately responds by assaulting Jade's other half and getting out of range from the rest of the party. The fiend eventually disappears, severely wounded, and Velania decides to run as well, realizing that fighting would be her downfall. While this occurs and with Velania out of range, Brigid and Gog decide to attack and destroy the crystal at the center of the chamber. As they do the castle begins to age and crumble, collapsing on top of the party. Lena casts Rope Trick and provides a place for the party to escape the falling debris. Everyone is able to make it into pocket dimension except for Brigid, who loses her grip on the rope as a boulder strikes her. The session ends with Brigid falling as the castle collapses onto her.
