Session 0.5 Report

General Summary

The four Children of Faeros began their day by waiting an uncomfortable amount of time for their boss to come and debrief them. They spent a bit of time getting to know each other and goofing off, when a nobleman who had a hand in Izirael's promotion enters the room. He introduces himself as Darsin, and, after a brief congratulation to Izirael, left the room. The four heroes went back to goofing off, for only a moment when Darsin reenters the room.   "You'll have to forgive me, Izirael," he began, "I forgot to ask you if you had brought your friend along."   Izirael answers with a dismissal of bringing her "friend" as Darsin had put it. Once the man had left, however, Izirael confesses to her new coworkers that this "friend" was actually a Meeran that she had accidentally bound under her control when she was younger. To prove this, Izirael made the Meeran - Virgil - dance for their entertainment before dismissing him back to his void prison.   After some more time on their own, another man enters the room. This time, the four of them are ordered to stop goofing off, and sit down for their assignment. Setting an envelope on the table, the man introduces himself as Captain Aries and informs the four of them that he does not care enough to learn their names until they have made it a week.   He gives them a quick introduction to the assignment before releasing the envelope to them. The new investigator team has been assigned to look into a homicide that was reported just this morning. The man who reported it, Delmare, assumes it had been a Meeran attack and reported it as such. The group decides it would be best to gather some additional information from him and head off toward the neighborhood of Little Sislan.   Upon arriving in Little Sislan, the find Delmare discussing something with a man in the umistakable uniform of the The Last Defenders. A quick arguement and an assertion of authority later, the Last Defenders is shooed away so that the Investigators may question their guy. Delmare gives a slightly more detailed description of the thing he saw attacking the body: it was very top heavy, tall, and had large claws but he couldn't make out but a few details in the dark. Delamre then takes the detectives to where the body lies so that the four of them can investigate a cause of death. When they arrive, they notice that the body has a lot of bite wounds and seems a bit dehydrated and further investigation of their surroundings reveals that the amount of blood around the body seems to have been deliberatly placed. None of this added up, so they asked Delmare if there was anybody else that he knew of that could help them out. Delmare didn't know anybody personally, but he did point out that the victim worked for Big Bill.   Upon arriving in the Sixth Precinct Market Square, and interrupting his lunch, the party began to ask Big Bill about the goings on in the area as well as his slain subordinate. After refusing to answer for a bit, Big Bill graciously agreed to talk. He told them that a mysterious vigilante had been roaming the streets at night calling himself Owlman. This vigilante was seen attacking perceived Meerans multiple times and always at the time that the victim was presumed to have died. Big Bill didn't know where to find him exactly, but did know that Owlman was under the employ of Micah - one of the slumlords that extort the refugees in the slums.   The investigators make their way to the aptly named Slumlord Row to ask Micah where they could find Owlman. However, after threatening their way inside and goofing off in the waiting area, the group spots a notable person they recognize: Loran, the leader of The Last Defenders. Zariel promptly gets up and follows the man outside, unseen. Attempting to see what Zariel is up to, Izirael sends virgil to follow. Spotting him, Zariel teleports away and Virgil returns to his master.   Continuing her pursuit outside, Zariel finds Loran meeting up with somebody from her past, Tabrish. She sends her scorpion familiar to follow and returns to the group.   While Zariel is missing, Micah agrees to meet with the rest of the investigators. When they ask to speak with Owlman, Micah leaves, and the vigilante returns. While getting the information about where Owlman was, and asking for his help, the investigators noticed that Micah and Owlman would never speak to them at the same time. Zariel returns during this exchange and the group agrees to meet with Owlman later that night at the scene of the crime.   The group splits up to take care of some personal tasks, and, when they meet back up, Owlman is waiting for them at the scene of the crime. After gathering some additional information, the group now suspects that Owlman is the perpatrator, but he is currently the only one of them that can track where the perpetrator went. With no other obvious options, the group follows Owlman into the sewers.   While they make their way through the sewers, the group spots a feather floating along in the water. They snatch it up to examine. Speculating that it might be one of Owlman's feathers, the investigators pluck one from the vigilante. Ignoring this, Owlman presses forward while the group compares the feathers. Though they were strikingly different, the group had not yet ruled out Owlman as an accomplice. But, still with no other option, the group continues to follow him.   Owlman leads them to a couple of malformed or distorted abominations. Suprising the monsters in an ambush, and sustaining some injuries, the heros defeat the creatures. However, after the creatures were defeated, they began to lurch towards a single point in the room.   Investigating where the flesh piles were lurching toward, the group finds a trap door in the ground. Following the door to its end, revealed a labratory of sorts where more of the monsters could be found along with the corpses of both Meeran and Aasimar. The group collected a few of the corpses, and monsters, then burned the rest to the ground. When they burned the creatures and their flesh away, the group found a couple of glowing red stones.   Taking what they had found back to the precinct, and reporting what they had found to their captain, the investigators took their leave for the night. On their way home, the group began to suspect that this might have something to do with Darsin, and sent him and invitation to lunch the next day. Plans were also made for Owlman to use his superiour olfactory senses to confirm Darsin's identity as he had the scent from the sewer feather. They could then finally, rest for the night.   In the morning, each of the investigators had received summons from their captain and rushed down to the precinct. Once their, Captain Aries sat them down to inform the group that officers above him had closed the case and congratulated them on a job done. Though, the Captain did wonder aloud where the monsters had come from, and what those stones were. He exited the room leaving behind the official closing order for the case, notorized by Darsin's office.   While the investigators were discussing this, Captain Aries poked his head back in to inform the group that he was hitting the showers and that he thought he had left a couple of those red stones in his desk. And, at that, he was off. Zariel quickly ran to his office and back, invisibly, with the stones in question.   Not wanting to miss their lunch plans, the group arrives to the spot early and meet up with Owlman. Everybody reached their positions and awaited for Darsin to arrive as promised. He did, even if it was thirty minutes late, and Owlman confirmed that he was the guy. Izirael sat through the uncomfortable encounter with Darsin and Virgil then met back up with her newfound friends.   We left our group as they were discussing how they would handle the takedown of such a high ranking member of Aasimar society...
