Session IV: Hugeldal Report

General Summary

Morathric meets with Christoph Engel, Ubersreik's Grey Wizard, and gets a tour through his Wizard's Tower. Raaf, shocked, gets some clarification on everything that happened involving the young von Jungfreud from Doktor Eva Madelung, and the following day, Will finally gets to meet up with Hendrick Blücher, the blacksmith he'll be working under and with at the Metalworker's Guild, who also offers him a place to rest (albeit in his cellar).   A week later, Christoph Engel leads Morathric to a townhouse by Black Rock Castle, while Gerlinde Sattler and Helmut Bluchheim, two agents working for the Imperial Herald, bring Will and Raaf respectively. They explain that the three will travel, together with them, to confront Emmerich von Jungfreud with the case regarding the brigands he hired to bring him young Wendelin - but before they do that, a slight detour is in order, and the group is set to investigate the burned down town of Hugeldal.   When they arrive that evening, they find that Gunther's grave has been covered up with dirt, and that a mass grave has been dug next to it. When they investigate the town, however, the group discovers bodies in the manor, together with a suspiciously fully burnt out library. They find the Temple of Shallya mostly intact, save for the wooden roof and some of the seating, but also that it had been abandoned for some time.   Next to the Temple, they find the remnants of one Doktor Andreas Verfullen - and more specifically, the basement of his home. They find letters regarding diseases on a desk, addressed to one “Frimia” who lives somewhere in Salzenmund in Nordland. The correspondence appears academical in nature, but Raaf notices that something about it is off, and that it appears to be some sort of codified message instead.   Will opens a cupboard, and finds a shrine with a marking he does not recognize on it. Morathric, Helmut, and Gerlinde do recognize it - it is the sign of Nurgle, the Lord of Pestilence and Father of Plagues - and none of them like to speak of it. They quickly close the cabinet and vacate the basement, covering the trapdoor leading to it up with rubble again.   Searcing for Verfullen, whose home remained body-less, Morathric is first to spot what appears to be a body hanging from a tree by the woodline outside of town. When they approach, they find a doktor's body hanging from a branch, a rope tied around his neck, and his arms and legs cut off (and seemingly nowhere to be found).
