Session 12: Arrival in Mekkisir Report

General Summary

Last session began in the midst of combat with the Pale Corsairs. Captain Broadside appeared to be ready to parley but an attack from Skreech reignited combat between the two crews. The unexpected arrival of the Violet Brigade along with a well-timed Lightning Bolt from Dacha ended the conflict, killing Broadside and his first mate. The rest of the pirate crew surrendered and the Menagerie looted the dead before the Violet Brigade arrived to commandeer the pirate vessel. Rinrin recovered slaves from below deck, including an old family friend Wobben who confirmed her father was currently a slave aboard the Istishia's Revenge, under the ownership of Captain Jack the Bonelord, one of the Pale Corsairs seven Pirate Lords.   After a well-deserved night's rest, the Triton's Lance finally reached Mekkisir the following morning. The Menagerie said their goodbyes to the merchants and the crew of the Triton's Lance before heading into the city. The party noticed Beradin speaking with two strangers but decided to give the dwarf his privacy. He hurried the group into the city so he could register them with the Aubergine League and be able to pay them. The group headed for the Clifftop District and the Violet Aerie, where they met Kladath, a dragonborn female who clerked at the Aerie. She registered the Menagerie as an official mercenary group within the Aubergine League, but informed Skreech that he also needed to register with the Mage's Guild as an interplanar traveler with arcane constructs.   Brakmat and Skreech visited the Northern Mage's Guildhall, Skreech registering with the guild archivist while Brakmat questioned the gatemaster about his condition. The gatemaster advised Brakmat to visit the local temples for more information, as his affliction was divine in nature. He was able to provide Brakmat with a bit of information about the gods associated with each of the temples in the city. Skreech also learned that the Deleth Yorkiras, whom Droknar was trying to avoid, happened to be the same silver dragonborn that had taught Skreech the secrets of golem construction, and that he was in the city meeting with the Doge.   Nightwind pulled Dacha aside to talk with him privately about her situation in Mekkisir. She revealed that she was not the wife of a merchant; rather, she was the wife of a high-ranking officer in the Violet Brigade, Major General Scesso, and she is also a member of a noble family in the city, who believe she was either sold into slavery or dead. She had been truthful about her husband's infidelity, but had left out the fact that she was a threat to his power and that her disappearance had been blamed on one of her ex-husband's rivals, General Thalorin, who was now awaiting execution. Dacha agreed to help Nightwind reunite with her family and reveal Scesso's deceit.   Rinrin and Droknar paid a visit to Noki so Rinrin could pick up her Shiftweave Cloak and Droknar could purchase the Hat of Disguise. The two then made their way up to Puzzles, the tavern where the rest of the Menagerie agreed to meet. Nightwind agreed to hide out in Puzzles for the time being while the Menagerie handled their business in the city. The group made their way down to Undhamarr in hopes of scouting out Deleth Yorkiras. As they entered Undhamarr, Dacha sent Owl up to scout the massive cavern beneath the cliff and his familiar found a dungeon suspended from the ceiling of the cave, in which he spotted the condemned General Thalorin. They asked the local Violet Brigade soldiers about General Thalorin's execution and learned that he was set to be executed in three days, following a last meeting with the Doge where he could plead his case one final time.   The party attempted to make their way into Stonelord's Keep but were unable to talk their way past the guards. On the way back, Brakmat made a stop at the Spire of Kord to speak to the High Rector. The Rector explained that unicorns were only born when a divine soul entered a newborn horse, and recognized that Brakmat housed a divine soul within himself. He advised the saurian to seek out the non-dwarven temples, as his description of Ala'syn did not match anything in the dwarven pantheon. After a bit more shopping, the party reconvened at Puzzles to plan their next steps.
