Session 6: Return to Donborough Report

General Summary

The session began with the party looting the bodies of the defeated Saurians before disposing of them and settling into camp for the night. During that night's watch, Dacha heard something knocking over trees in the jungle but didn't see anything approaching their camp other than the once-distant thunderstorms that began to inundate the mangrove jungle by morning.   The party returned to the river to find its banks overflowing and their boats smashed against the shoreline, forcing them to walk the rest of the way back to Donborough, keeping to the river as they travelled. As they made their way down the river, Brakmat opted to swim in the river and spotted what he thought was gold lying on the bed of the river. Upon closer inspection, he found it was just fool's gold, but chose to keep it anyway because it was shiny. Later that morning, the group overheard a woman's screams coming from deeper in the jungle and veered off to investigate, happening upon a destroyed campsite and the nearby corpse of a tiefling man who had his arm completely torn off. Discovering the man had suffered grievous bite and claw marks, the party was suddenly ambushed by a large, ape-like yang-qi which proceeded to grab and toss various party members around as the group worked to subdue the angry creature. Droknar managed to summon the dragoborn echo he had been trying to communicate with, but was knocked out before he could speak to him. Skreech landed the killing blow on the yang-qi, but not before it smashed his beloved golem Gerald into the ground.   Later that evening as the party made camp for the night, Droknar encountered a terrified, injured woman stumbling into their midst. She introduced herself as Kaya and explained that she and her fiance, Edowyn, the tiefling whose corpse the party had discovered earlier, had been attacked by a large creature as they camped in the jungle. She couldn't remember much about the attack itself or how she got away, but did mention that she and Edowyn had come from the town of Lyredil. Brakmat was already wary of Kaya as soon as she arrived, trying to intimidate her into revealing more information and finally threatening her when he noticed the dried blood beneath her fingernails and on her hands. Kaya suddenly began repeating the same phrase, "Please, help me," as she transformed into a nightmarish construct. During the battle, it impaled Brakmat with its claws, injecting him with a poison that caused him to fall unconscious. Even after subduing the creature and attempting to heal Brakmat, the Saurian remained asleep and the party decided to rest so that Dacha could regain his magic to try healing him in the morning.   Droknar had summoned the dragonborn again during this battle and used this opportunity to communicate with him. The echo revealed itself as Adanzu Kurraxil, a former artificer of the city of Arathoxia. He explained that he was the one who created the device Droknar had found, which he called an "Accelerator." He mentioned the device was intended to allow mortals to access the Weave and achieve godhood, but that something went wrong when it was activated and Adanzu's body was destroyed. He surmises that Droknar only survived because he is something called a Weavetouched.   Rinrin continued to study the Obscuris Cosmology, still unable to glean anything from the text other than the fact that it is encoded by a magical cipher. She did find depictions of the god Yogwilesh, Mekhane, and an angel god she recognized as the one they'd seen a shrine for on their way to Timberwall.   As Skreech worked on rebuilding Gerald, he again received a vision from the goddess Mekhane. She asked him why he squanders her blessings, explaining how she laments the mortals of the past who used her designs for violence. Though Skreech attempted to convince the goddess he did not intend to alter her designs for battle, she found his answers less than satisfactory, and he awoke from his vision with his affliction having progressed further up his leg.   Deep in his poison-induced slumber, Brakmat found himself in his home village. The area was completely abandoned but he noticed a light coming from his home and decided to investigate. Inside, he encountered an armored angelic being emanating golden light. She introduced herself as Ala'syhn, a member of the Val'Menar whose soul now resided within him. She asked Brakmat why he fought and explained that she believed him to be worthy of her power if only he fought for the right reasons. As they spoke, a thunderous noise came from outside, and when Brakmat investigated it, he saw the metallic angel he'd seen in his previous vision, before suddenly waking up.   The next day of travel brought the party to the coast where they encountered a troll asking them to pay a toll to cross the bridge toward Donborough, which they paid with the fool's gold Brakmat had recovered the previous day. As they made their way down the coast, they saw merchant ships and fishing boats out on the water, the storm having mostly receded. They witnessed two ents cross the road to soak their roots in the water, the party passing by peacefully as they returned to Donborough.   They made their way to the Wavemother's Temple where they returned the Diadem of Thar Ashaela to Nasse, who presented them with gold for completing their quest. Nasse informed Skreech that Rigak wanted to speak with him and the Thri-kreen immediately left to go see his blacksmith friend. She informed the others that the apothecary Nangan and sheriff Morro may have more information for them regarding the ratlings they encountered and the childrens disappearances mentioned by Aki, respectively.   Skreech found Rigak and his son had both been injured since the party had left Donborough, which Rigak explained came from one of the myrmidons the party had fought at the tavern a week earlier. He had managed to repair one and it attacked him and his son before escaping. He also showed Skreech that he had made a proper mechanical arm but lamented he couldn't figure out how to animate it. Skreech pulled out the head of Orn and the arcane battery and Rigak proceeded to attach both of them to his arm, animating both Orn and the arm who proceeded to introduce himself to the Saurian.   The rest of the party made their way back to the Half Pint Tavern where they found a very happy Finton Berrybottle ready to serve them drinks and food. As they sat down to eat, they saw in one corner of the bar was a dwarf with jewel-braided beard several glasses of ale in and pouring over a map, while Rinrin's attention was caught by a familiar red-haired halfling sitting at the fireplace whom she recognized as her mentor, Osrick Riverhands.
