Session 1: Fired and Forgotten Report
General Summary
Sharn Chicken
The session started with the players wanting to join the Clifftop Adventurers Guild however before they could do so they had to take part in a game of "Sharn Chicken". The party was asked to introduce themselves by the elven man that was officiating the event. Sun Jian Zhi Gao-Peng was the first person to introduce himself as a Tortle Monk, then Workiim the Bladesinging Warforged Wizzard, Morg the Half-Elf Rogue, and Pippy Wildwonderer the Gnomish Druid. Soon after they have finished introducing them elves another party of adventurers arrived to take part in "Sharn Chicken". They are introduced as Rune the Warforged Sorcerer, Zirk and Zahra the Half-Orc Twins that were introduced as a Paladin and a rogue respectively, and Nerissa the Tiefling Bard.
After the introductions were out of the way they were all given a "Talisman of Feather Fall" which works similarly to the feather fall tokens that most of the citizens of Sharn use however the tokens activate automatically, the talismans have to be activated manually. These aren't useful for saving lives but they can be used in the Guild's favorite game. "Sharn Chicken" is a rather simple game, multiple people gather on one of the bridges in the upper wards of Sharn and jump off, plunging towards the lower levels. The last person to activate their Talisman of Feather Fall is the winner unless they don't activate it at all. Then the second to last person is the winner and the last one is scrapped off the ground.
The Party and the other contestants take their places, ready to jump off the bridge at the count of three. However when the Elf running the game counted down to 2 and then they were all pushed off the bridge by a magical gust of wind.
The first obstacle that the competitors had to try and dodge on the way to the ground was a mass of washing lines that stretched out between two towers. All of them managed to dodge the washing lines with the exception of Morg and Pippy who went straight through them, and while Pippy managed to maintain her composure and carry on Morg immediately panicked and activated her talisman. The second obstacle that they all had to dodge was a bridge, that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Everyone with the exception of Pippy and Rune manages to dodge the bridge, with the Pippy and Rune going straight into the bridge. Fortunately, the bridge was an illusion however it was enough to cause Both Rune and Pippy to activate their talismans.
The third and final obstacle that the competitors had to deal with was to dodge a Halfling on a Glidewing. Workiim, Sun, and Nerissa all managed to dodge however Zahra and Zirk plowed straight into the Glidewing Rider and could be spotted arguing with him while they floated to the ground. With the last three contestants rapidly approaching the ground Workimm and Sun activated their Talismans however Nerrisa chose not to and tried to get as close as the ground as she could. This resulted in the guild Wizzard at the bottom immediately casting Feather Fall on her in an attempt to save her life, leading her to be disqualified.
After everyone else and floated down back to the ground, with Morg being the last one to touch down, it was announced that Sun and Workiim were the joint winners since nobody could actually tell which one of them activated their talismans first. This judgment left Nerissa rather annoyed and she proceeded to argue with the person running the event about how unfair her disqualification was.
The Party's First Mission
After the dust had settled the party was approached by one of the Guild Handlers, a shifter that introduced herself as Lhara. Lhara congratulated the party on completing the initiation and welcomed them to the Clifftop Adventurers Guild, she then issued them with their first assignment. They were tasked to collect a commission for a client that was currently being made at a workshop located in the Cogs called Drummonds Independents, they are to head down and ask for the Head Artificer, a Gnome by the name of Tresca and give her a notarized letter of credit in return for the commission, Lhara then hands the letter of credit to the party. When questioned further about the nature of the commission the party is told that the commission is a Burning Idol, a conduit to Fernia, the Sea of Fireāan elemental plane that drifts in and out of alignment with Ebberon. They are given directions to Drummonds Independents before Lhara disappears back into the bustling crown of the city.
The party made their way to one of the many elevators that could lower them down to the Cogs, one of the lowest and oldest parts of the City. However, as soon as they left the elevator they realized that none of them could actually remember the directions to Drummonds Independents and had to get the directions of a Warforged Labourer. When they reached the location of the workshop they were met by the sight of the entire workshop warforged workforce striking out by the front of the shop, with a gnomish Woman and a Human Man.
The Gnomish woman turns out to be the Head Artificer Tresca and the human is Halas Drummond. Tresca explains to the party that the warforged were striking because they wanted to be treated equally to the other warforged that worked for other establishments while Drummond nearly refuses to treat the warforged as much more than mere tools. Pippy goes up to the warforge leading the strike, Stoke, and questions him about the strike, while Stoke admits that they don't really need the extra pay, due to the fact they don't need to pay for things like food, he tells here that the strike is more about getting recognized as equals. Pippy then tried to boost the morale of the striking workers by trying to give a rousing speech, using illusionary visions of gold and a humiliating illusion of Drummond, however, she stumbles over her words which just leads to Drummond laughing and going back inside of the Shop.
Morg and Pippy stayed outside the shop and talked with Tresca while Sun and Warkiim made their way inside to see if they could try and talk to Drummond. They walk through the workshop area to go and see if they can find Drummond in his office, and to their surprise, they find out that he isn't actually there. So they take the opportunity to have a look through the various documents and letters he has scattered across the desk. Although it turns out that while Drummond isn't as profitable as he tries to portray he has in fact been dodging a "Protection" payment to a local crime syndicate. Drummond then appeared behind the two of them and asked them what they were doing in his office, Pippy and Morg also chose this moment to make their way inside.
Sun and Warkiim then used the information they found to persuade Drummond to strike up a deal with the warforged, which was nearly jeopardized by Pippy trying to steal a rather fancy ring that was left on Drummonds desk.
The Commission
After a deal was struck the party handed over the Letter of Credit to Tresca and asks about the Burning Idol, to which they find out that due to the strike Tresca hasn't actually managed to make a start with the commission, and with Drummond wanting the warforged to get back onto other projects, Tresca requests that the Party helps her with the creation of the Idol.
