Soaring the Skies of Evermeet Report

General Summary

Having the weight of being a fugitive for so many years, Osa leaves the Eladrian city of Leuthilspar a free woman. She and her companions travel Northwest in a mighty flying wizard's tower owned by the Olithir family.   Her new Aunt Bargala informs Osa that the tower will take approximately five days to reach The Lake of Dreams, and the towers magical energies would be replenished there. During the trip she shows everyone to their rooms so they can rest in during the transit. The interior of Hose Olithir is filled with unearthly beauty and luxury, the walls and columns appearing to be made of white alabaster stone with crystal and glass at their top, emanating a soft light throughout the tower's various rooms and hallways. Bargala tells everyone to take the time to settle into the luxurious rooms provided, and that she too would be going to freshen up and get clean and comfortable. After everyone had a chance to clean up and stow their belongings, Bargala's voice could be heard informing all where the dining room was located, and that they were to join her there for dinner. Bargala had changed into some of her best finery, and went about entertaining her niece and two companions. Excellent food and drink was brought to and from the table by a host of unseen servants, and the food and drink was delicious beyond expectation. Dinner conversation was mostly kept to friendly banter, as their host insisted that more serious matters could wait until all had eaten their fill and had a chance to relax. Some light flirting occurred between Bargala and Aronin, and the two seemed quite pleased with each other's company. During the meal Aronin shared his ambition to study War Magics, and that he had been under the tutelage of Zartan, the Master of the Host Tower of the Arcane. Bargala was delighted and amused by this, as she had helped train Zartan many years ago, and would love to see what quality of student Zartan had produced. Eldred mentioned his hourglass, and asked if Bargala would be willing to look at it after dinner. She agreed, and bade him to go fetch it after dinner and bring it to the library.   Everyone gathered together in the tower's immense library after dinner, Eldred by way of his room to grab his hourglass device. He handed it to Bargala while pointing out that the complex inner gears located inside the device somewhat resembled the layout of the great geared city in the Plane of Mechanus. Bargala was intrigued, and began a thorough magical examination of the hourglass. She discovered that even though the end of the Second Sundering and the Spellplauge had caused almost all wild magic to cease functioning, that Eldred's device emitted strong traces of Wild Magic. During the conversation Bargala and Aronin continued their flirtatious banter. As the other members excused themselves for the evening, Bargala and Aronin stayed behind to discuss his ambitions as a Warmage. When the two of them were alone in the library, she told him that he should go collect his wizard's blade and meet her in the ballroom of the tower for some personal lessons in 10 minutes. Aronin bolted to his room, grabbed his weapon, and hurried to the ballroom. The room was an enormous dance floor with sections for musicians staged along one side of the circular room, and a well stocked bar with a solid curved block of black obsidian serving as the serving table. Lady Bargala arrived a fashionably late, and as she entered the room the instruments left sitting on the chairs rose up and began to play a fast paced waltz. Bargala had changed back into the dress she was wearing back in Leuthilspar, and as she walked across the room to meet up with Aronin, her iridescent dress split up the middle to become pants, while the facets of the multi-colored gems grew and shifted until it appeared she was wearing a very form-fitting outfit that could have passed for a type of dragon's skin. The ivory rod carried in her right hand erupted out into a multi colored blade resembling a scimitar. As Bargala quickly approached, she began to lightly sing to the music being played, and a form of magic caused her movement speed to increase far past a normal persons walk. Aronin bravely stepped forward to meet his challenger, but not a single blow was able to slip past the unnatural speed that Bargala was now moving at. Using the flat of her blade, she repeatedly made playful slaps of her scimitar that would have been deadly strikes if the fight had been in earnest. The whirling dance and ringing of blades continued until the both of them leaned heavily winded against one of the tower's cool alabaster walls. Bargala complimented Aronin on his swordplay, and said he was off to a fine start, while making double entendre that if Aronin wanted to continue his "swordplay" lessons that he should join her for a bath to freshen up. Aronin happily accepted the invitation and had a most pleasant evening.   The remaining days in the tower were filled with shared stories between its occupants. Bargala seemed quite well informed of the significant goings on back on the Prime Material Plane, but was still eager to fill in details from the explosion of the Host Tower in Luskan, and what the group had experienced in Chult. Time passed, and the tower's journey had brought it to the great floating pyramids at the center of the Lake of Dreams. Faces were glued to the windows of the tower and the grand sight of the Sumner Palace rivaled Leuthilspar beauty. It was an enchanted structure of alabaster, marble, crystal, and gems resting on four pyramids that floated 200 feet above the lake. Each Pyramid had a giant crystal as part of the top of its structure, each a different color. As the tower lowered down to sit level and centered between the massive structures floating above the lake, each crystal emitted a brilliant beam of energy matching the colors of the crystals atop the pyramids. Red, blue, green, and brown beams crackled into the bottom of the tower, Bargala told everyone that the tower would be at full strength by morning, and inquired what their plans were from here. She offered them transport to wherever they planed on traveling next. With the group being uncertain, she shared the news of the current political state of Aronin's home town, revealing the group could be of assistance in helping lessen the influence of the Cult of the Dragon. Aronin's new traveling companions strongly encouraged him to return to his hometown, and were eager to bring aid. Moved by this he graciously accepted and asked if Bargala could quietly deliver them near the entryway of the city of Skalnaedyr. She happily agreed, and said the tower would be ready to teleport them first thing in the morning. Prior to their departure, Lady Bargala bestowed gifts to the adventuring band, with the charge of ensuring that Eldred and Aronin do their best to keep her new Niece safe. Aronin enjoyed one last night of bliss, and in the morning they were teleported just out of sight and a short distance of Skalnaedyr's main city gates.   Aronin was taken aback on how much the city had changed in his two and a half year absence, and was pleased to see that the Order of the Blue Thunderbolts was indeed thriving and winning over the favor of the people of the city. He was quickly recognized by his fellow guild-mate Sagomith and given a hero's welcome at the brand new 80 foot tower that stood proudly at the city's center district. The party was lead up to have audience with the tower's headmaster Zjackam Sorabald, who was also delighted at the return of Aronin and his traveling companions. He shared the their timing could not have been better, but first invited them to stretch their legs and join him for celebratory drinks at the guild owned Shocking Suds Tavern and Inn. Light conversation was held, and Sorabald took great delight in discussing the city and the surrounding countryside for the benefit of Osa and Eldred. After several rounds of drinks, they all returned to the privacy of Sorabald's private office in the tower. Once their privacy was secure, he went into detail of the Cult of the Dragon's attempts to persuade a young adult red dragon to the North to ally itself with their cause, and the huge potential setback to the progress made with the people of Skalnaedyr. The only thing that had delayed the foul plans of the cult being the red dragon's greed and view of humanoids as lesser beings. Sorabald informed the adventurous trio that their timing had been fated by the gods as he removed a flat heavy wooden case from his desk and showed them the contents within. A beautiful deep blue dragon scale rest inside the case, bigger than the palm of a man's hand. It was a scale from the legendary dragon Skalnaedyr! Etched into the scale was a rune of Divination. Sorabald excitedly reported there had been sighting of a blue dragon wyrmling out in the wastes of the Plains of Purple Dust, and that it was believed that the young wyrmling was a direct descendant of the mighty Skalnaedyr. The scale in the case was enchanted to act as a divining rod to point out the direction towards this young wyrmling, and that is was the great hope of the Tower that if approached that a dialog might be opened, and a partnership with direct descendant of the city's namesake would help crush the Cult's plans to sway the population of the city. Sorabald asked the group to consider taking the mission while staying in the room to witness an important meeting. Sorabald then informed the group that representatives from Cormyr were coming to discuss aiding the city's fight against the foul influence of the Cult of the Dragon. Lionar Rodrik, a Captain of the Purple Dragons, and a magic-user known as a Master Fleruindale entered and the meeting began. Lionar Rodrik recognized Aronin as he informed the group of his standing with the Order and Cormyr's intent to stop the Cult of the Dragon. He offered to aid in the security of Murghôm though diplomats and direct security, but the diplomatic process and logistics of moving that many men and equipment would be challenging. Cormyr's representatives politely refused Sorabald offer of a gift of fine 100 year old brandy, so after the meeting he offered it to Aronin's group to enjoy. The Outsiders agreed to take on this dangerous mission to seek out this young wyrmling in the Plains of Purple Dust, and arrangements were made for their equipment and camels to be readied. As Osa and Eldred had never ridden camels, a few days were set aside to allow them to learn the proper techniques to ride. Osa' Camel seemed to take to her immediately, and actually seemed friendly towards her, Eldred's camel took only slightly longer, but the both of them seemed to be naturals. With a total of five camels and several weeks worth of provisions, the Outsider's left the city and headed South, guided buy the gentle pull of the enchanted scale of the mighty Dragon Skalnaedyr.
