Return to Port Nyranzaru Report

General Summary

Departing from their venture into the jungles of Chult and the successful exploration of the Shrine of Obtao, the party had an uneventful four day trip North East up the river Soshenstar and arrived back at Port Nyanzaru very late in the evening. Their guide Eku informed them that their contact would contact them in the morning, and that the party should check back into their rooms at the Thundering Lizard, clean-up at one of the many bath houses, and informed them that a bard named Solaine performed a late show on Thursday, and would be a great way for the party to relax prior to calling it a night.   Everyone decided to follow Eku's advice and gathered in front of the Thundering Lizard as an outdoor stage was assembled and some awnings were set up to provide cover from the light rain that had begun to come down. Shortly before midnight Solaine appeared and started the show with a beautiful flute solo played upon a platinum flute with an intricate dragons head carved at the end. and heartfelt song warning of the dangers of traveling into the jungle. After that Solaine switched to the lute and played rousing music that caused the huge crowd to get up and dance throughout the night. As the party went well into the wee hours of the morning, some of our heroes called it a night and went into their rooms for some very well deserved rest.   When Solaine's performance had concluded, they joined the table with the remaining party members and shared their experiences in Chult. Solaine elaborated on the story behind the Ballad performed and how all of the traveling companions that had gone out to make their fortune had died to the masses of undead roaming the jungle. Solaine also let the party know of the hazards of adventuring into Chult without a "Writ of Salvage" from the Order of the Flaming fist based out of Fort Beluarian. The group was warned the roaming parties of the Order would forcibly confiscate any treasures or wealth the party might have if they did not possess a "Writ of Salvage". Morgrim asked Solaine about a Batiri goblin village called Yellyark, and if they had any idea of it's location. Morgim showed Solaine his map of Chult, and while they were marking the best known position of the village of Yellyark, Morgrim was warned to be careful whom he allowed to know he was in possession of such and excellent map, and that there were those in Port Nyanzaru the would kill him for such a valuable thing.   The rest of the group finally went to sleep, and were greeted by an eager Joo-Tee-Fan in the morning. He escorted the party to his room at the Thundering Lizard, and used a magical mirror to allow the party to report their findings from the Shire of Obtao to Jax directly. The sketches and robes recovered from the dead members of the Host Tower of the Arcane were turned over to Joo-Tee-Fan and the party was praised by Jax for their outstanding work. Jax updated the group that their goods should arrive at Port Nyanzaru in approximately three weeks, and that as soon as their good were sold they would be receiving the remainder of their payment. Jax also slyly comment that there was a surprise on the ship for Morgrim.   After completing their business with Joo-Tee-Fan, the group set out to explore a bit of the Port Nyanzaru, and learned of a few of its practices and customs. Not all of what was learned was received well by the mighty Conner, but as the party had little ability to change customs of the town, he took it as best he could. One of the first stops made by our group was at the single remaining temple dedicated to Obtao. During the visit they met and elderly priest of Obtao, who told them that he had been waiting for their arrival as part of the completion of his life's "maze". He went on to explain that Obtao expected all of his children to figure out the path of their "maze" before their death, and that those who failed to do so would return to live another life, or be punished and return as beasts of the land. The priest introduced himself as Ragnagasol, and began drawing a circular maze upon the ground with his staff while talking to the party.   Ragnagasol stopped his story telling long enough to approach Arryan's faithful war-dogs and kneel before them and greet them. The dog's seem to abandon all of their training and acted like happy puppies while he attended to them. Arryan was informed of the unfortunate news that his dogs were suffering terribly due to the harsh weather of Chult, and that one of the dogs had contracted a disease that would most likely result in the dog's eventual death. Arryan was given a choice to either allow the priest to assist with the dogs, or leave them as they were. The priest went on to clarify that if he helped the beasts that they would never be able to leave Chult, and that Arryn would have to pass ownership along to another prior to departing. Arryn decided to allow the elderly priest to invoke the blessings of Obtao into his war-dogs. All present watched in amazement as the two massive dogs were transformed before their eyes into even more massive scaled creatures. Ragnagasol informed Arryan that his faithful companions would require a carnivore's diet, but that their obedience and temperament would remain the same. He let Arryan know that these re-born creatures were known as scalebeasts, and were considered blessed beings by Obtao. Ragnagasol answered some of the party's questions about the shrine they had found, and went back over to complete the circular maze he had been drawing into the ground with his staff. While finishing the complex maze drawing, he commented that the party had served Obtao well through their actions, and had allowed him to at last complete his own journey. With Ragnagasol's drawing complete, he and has drawing both disappeared, leaving the temple feeling empty and bereft of it's previous mystical aura.   As the party debated what to do next while waiting for a payday that was still three weeks away, they managed to trade the Bloodflowers they had collected from the jungle for 6 healing potions to assist them with future conflicts. After much discussion and debate, Morgrim convinced some of the team to take advantage of the time and use it for further exploration into the jungle. Most agreed, seeing the opportunity adventure, profit, and for the possibility of removing an evil presence said to inhabit the ruins of a town once known as Mbala. It was discovered that their former guide Eku was quite familiar with Mbala's sad story, and that she harbored a great desire to see such evil removed from the land. She agree to take on the role of being their guide once again, and if the party was willing to risk their lives doing this, that she would escort the them at no charge, including obtaining all supplies needed! Eku estimated it would be a 13 day trip down the river Soshenstar. The party also managed to find a beautiful half-orc priestess of Torm named Undril Silvertusk, who was desperate to hire escorts to a location called Camp Vengeance. The party checked with their map and found it to be only a slight detour from the path to Mbala. Negotiations were made, and Silvertusk agreed to hired the party on for 10gp a day for each escort to get her there safely. The party also managed to convince the priestess to switch to an armor that was more compatible to the heat of the jungle. Eku agreed to the detour, and stated that getting to Camp Vengeance should take about 9 days. Everyone said their farewells, and retired for the evening, ready to get going first thing in the morning.   Eldred informed the party that he had separate business that he expected to be completed upon the arrival of the ship to arrive in 3 weeks, and that he was going to decline this proposed travel based on a need to be in town for the arrival of the ship. Osa then informed the party that while she would sorely miss the companionship of those about to depart, her heart had told her to refrain from this trip, and remain by Eldred's side in Port Nyanzaru.
