Session 2: The problem at Breakshore Report

General Summary

~ recounted from Akassia's memories It is strange to be amongst the humans, even though the blood that runs through my veins is half that of their clan, I must confess after having spent some time with them I feel no closer to my human half than I have ever felt to my Elven half. I may have never been accepted by my clan, my mentor Lamassia aside..... but I least I understood their ways...   I am not far from the routes my clan used to wander in search of water and sustainance, yet it feels like I have crossed the great silt, so far away do I feel... Upon coming in to town, I presented myself to the clan Patriach, a man called Alkurt.... I hear he is a Templar, a man of some standing, Lamassia had told me tales of them, though I confess never to have understood much. He did have a position for me in the clan, one that used my special talents. He paired me up with a Thri-Kreen T'chai and within days I had tracked down my quarry, a group of Thri-Kreen that had been bothering this small settlement.   I feel the real story may have started just yesterday though. I had just reported back to Alkurt when a group of travellers walked in, they looked like dangerous people, the sort my clan would detour around if we spotted them on the horizon of the desert. I remember encounters with several groups during my time growing up... Usually both sides would pass by keeping a respectful distance, but sometimes whether through misunderstanding or desperation for water or plunder, blades would be crossed and arrows would fly...   It seems this group had been tasked with escorting a caravan through the wastes, a task they had performed apparently successfully, though not without losses on their side. I must confess I found them curious, I have not had much contact with the other races of the world, I had of course heard of dwarves, halflings, and the like but only rarely spotted them. The group was composed of Zwork a dwarf, Nutta an elf, I hear there were more, Osiris a human and Gar another dwarf though they did not appear.   Having greeted them Alkurt got...... I have heard a phrase from the merchants in the town... I believe I am using it correct, Alkurt got "down to business", and tasked the new arrivals with "fixing" the problem of the Thri-Kreens that had been encroaching on his settlement...... I must confess I found this interpretation of events rather amusing, for as long as my clan can remember Thri-Kreens have been a part of these wastes, raiding and trading.... yet his new settlement, this "Breakshore" had only been around for...... well I am not sure, but my clan certainly only encountered it in the last couple of years or so. Still though I have no particular emnity for the Thri Kreens, these wastes belong to those that can claim them, it is the law of nature, and the law of these wastes.   It seemed that I would once more be tasked with working with others....... we headed to the tavern to create our desired bonds of new friendship, as seems to be the way amongst humans. They have types of ale and wine that I had rarely seen whilst living in my clan, we traded for such pleasures, but ale and wine are heavy luxuries to drag through the desert and it had been many years since I had last tasted its like.   Yet these pleasures were not to last for long. It seems I am not the only person in this town with the touch of magic........ I had barely finished my first flagon when a mans head.............. exploded. I hear tell that the dwarf, Zwork had heard an eeerrrie sound somewhat like a cymbal, I heard no such thing, but I did see a figure swiftly exit the front door. Swiftly getting to my feet I flew through the door after him...... I have had a lifetime of experience tracking in the wastes, yet this was the first time applying myself in this manner in the city.... yet it was not difficult to discern the footsteps of a fleet footed elf, heading down an alley. Following these footsteps I came to a wall
