Anya
In life, Anya was the nursemaid of the Durst children. She was devoted to their care, and despite her youth she had a developed maternal instinct. She loved ducks and other birds and took up whittling shortly before her death; she crafted a few wooden duck figurines for those she was closest to. She was particularly fond of Walter, the youngest, and he slept every night in the room right beside hers.
Arrigal
Arrigal first presented himself to our adventures on the road from Daggerford to Watereep. Hours deep into the night, he raced towards them on horseback, then stopped to explain that up the road were two children in distress. The children, he said, claimed that their parents and infant brother were trapped inside with some sort of monstrous presence. Before the group ventured into the areas beyond the house's foyer, he bestowed upon them some minor magical trinkets, things he said would "protect them from great evil." With an encouraging smile, he left them to investigate the manor without him, and was not seen again.
Until the party ventured to Vallaki, that is. There they learned he was the brother of the de facto leader of the band of Vistani semi-permanently parked outside of town, Luvash. The party offered to help Luvash find his missing daughter, but when they returned Arrigal was nowhere to be found.
Astrid
One of Helwa's Bloodspears, an inquisitive and curious tracker.
Barov von Zarovich
Barov von Zarovich was known for his stoicism and dedication to conquering all he saw. He became a Lord at a very young age, then proceeded to leave a swath of blood in his wake as he became more and more powerful, building a vast army with almost no equal. He was eaten by a dragon shortly after becoming ill while attempting to overtake the forces of the Argynvostholt keep.
Dag Tomescu
Stefania's husband, a Martikov family member by marriage. He was, long ago, an adventurer who came through the Mists, but he made the mistake of taunting Strahd when invited to supper. Without a word, Strahd slaughtered all of his friends in front of him and left him to live the rest of his days in cold and gloomy Barovia. Dag, ever adaptable, found love and marriage with Stefania, but he has never achieved the happiness he had before the Mists captured him.
Elisabeth Durst
Elisabeth Durst was, in life before undeath, not much improved from her ghoulish reincarnation. Though she doted on her children for a time, (truly loved them, even) she took to depravity that drove her husband away from her and into the arms of another woman. Now she lives beneath her manor in filth and squalor, feasting on rats and sucking on the bones of those long dead by her hand.
Harald
One of Helwa's Bloodspears, a proud and stocky fighter.
Heinrich Stolt
Heinrich is an ancient wizard who lives in the Amber Temple.
Helwa
A skilled falconer, hunter, and leader, on a mission to spend 5 days in the Amber Temple without succumbing to its darkness. It's a rite of passage for future leaders belonging to the Wind Tribe.
Henrik van der Voort
The town's undertaker. Apparently a Strahd sympathizer, or at least a Vallakovich disliker.
Ireena von Zarovich
Ireena is the daughter of Ismark Kolyanovich, burgomaster of the Village of Barovia. She's trained with a sword and has adapted well to the wilderness by running errands for her father, although she retains a fear of the dark. Although she is bright and strong, she is prone to melancholy in stillness, and so does not like to be without action or movement for long.
Ismark Kolyanovich
Son and heir of Kolyan Indirovich, burgomaster of Barovia. Perhaps a little overprotective of Ireena, although not without reason.
Izek Strazni
The Strong Right Hand of the Baron. Izek worked so closely to Baron Vallakovich, he lives with the family in their home and is treated like a cousin or uncle. He has a frightening appearance to most, with his reddened, enlarged, and abnormally strong right arm, and his reputation amongst townfolk is not much more attractive than his exterior.
Izek, inspired by the words of the Batsk brothers, led a coup that resulted in the deaths of Lydia and Vargas, their son Victor fleeing just in time to avoid the wrath of the former Baron's trusted bodyguard. Izek then usurped the role of Baron, declaring himself the leader of the town of Vallaki.
Kasimir Velikov
Kasimir is one of the only surviving Dusk Elves in Barovia. He is adamant that ending Strahd's reign must begin and end in the Amber Temple. He only needs an expedition to go with him.
In his younger days, he rebelled against the Count openly, before Rahadin slew all of the women in the Dusk Elf population and disfigured his face and ears. He is still devoted to his cause, and seeks revenge against Strahd for the death of his sister. Some loyal elves work to further his interest, but the population has dwindled to only a few.
Keldei
Helwa's First Spear. He's loyal, clever, and a skilled scout and falconer.
Father Lucian Petrovich
The Morning Lord's ambassador to Vallaki, and keeper of His only church in the town. He cares for Millivoj and Yeska.
Luvash
Luvash is Arrigal's older brother, and a hulking mass of a man. He is skilled with an axe, and exacts justice harshly; upon meeting the man who kidnapped his daughter, Arabelle, he swiftly chopped off his head. Apparently, he is not a believer in curses like some of his counterparts.
Madame Eva
Eva is a well-respected figure in the ranks of the Vistani, and is said to have lived for hundreds of years without aging or dying. She has an impeccable skill for divination, but will only preform readings for a select few, who she seems to choose based on some internal compass that no one else may interpret.
Muriel Vinshaw
The closest thing Barovia likely has to an historian or anthropologist. Muriel studies the ancient rites and rituals of the peoples of the valley, those who occupied Barovia before the von Zaroviches conquered it. It is dangerous work, however, so she must be tight-lipped about the details of her studies. Strahd is ever-watchful.
Ormir
Rozana religious leader of the Mountain People in Yaedrag.
Patrina Velikovna
Formerly a servant of Dusk Elf royalty, Patrina sought power after her people were conquered by the von Zarovich armies. She sought this power in the arms of her greatest oppressor - Strahd himself. With her experience in royal courts, she knew how to ingratiate herself enough to become the Count's consort, but as soon as Tatyana arrived at the castle, she was cast aside and sent away.
After Tatyana's death and Strahd's turning, she attempted to reintegrate herself. Strahd, having lost the object of his obsession, saw clear through to her intentions and had Rahadin turn her away. Unfortunately for her, her own people did not take kindly to her fraternizing so brazenly with the man who had conquered them, and they executed her.
Although he turned her away, Strahd von Zarovich did not like the idea of someone being executed for associating with him, and liked losing control over a woman even less. He sent Rahadin to terrorize the Dusk Elves, and Rahadin and his small army killed every single woman in the population, effectively ending full-blooded Dusk Elf lineages forever.

Rahadin
Rahadin is the faithful last remaining general of Count Strahd von Zarovich. He served Strahd's father, Barov, before him, and was treated like a member of the family as Strahd grew up, training him to fight and lead in his father's absence. Rahadin is a ruthless man, and trusted implicitly by the von Zarovich family to make (and execute) difficult decisions.
Rahadin has no such loyalty to his ethnicity or culture. In fact, he openly resents the Dusk Elves for casting him out when he was in his youth. It was he that helped to conquer and cull the population, leaving only a few remaining.
Ravenovia von Zarovich
Strahd's mother. In life, she was known as a passionate and doting woman, often forgoing the use of nannies and other waitstaff to serve her children and husband. She was killed on the way to Castle Ravenloft by a band of forest folk, presumably after the von Zarovich family crest was noticed on the side of her wagon.
Rosavalda Durst
Rosavalda, or "Rose," as she was known, was the daughter of Elisabeth and Gustav Durst. She died at nine years of age due to starvation and dehydration after being locked up and forgotten in her bedroom with her younger brother, Thornboldt.
Rudoplh van Richten
An aged monster hunter whose career began when his son was kidnapped from him in payment to a Vistani tribe, who then sold him off to a vampiric baron. Van Richten retaliated severely, killing the entire encampment in one afternoon with the help of undead minions and incurring a curse that dooms all who are close to him to perish in terrible ways. He was too late to save his son, who begged to be relieved from the curse of vampirism. Van Richten obliged. He's spent every day since in the pursuit of monsters like the baron.
Sigrid
Chieftain of the Mountain People in Yaedrag
Spits-On-Dirt
A druid captured from the Wizard of Wines after a group of the Forest Folk invaded the building in search of the secrets the Martikovs held.
Tatyana von Zarovich
A beautiful and supposedly very charismatic and intelligent woman, Tatyana was Strahd's beloved. The Abbot implied that losing her was what brought on his terrible curse and condemned the country to darkness and despair.
Though she was loved by Strahd, she only had eyes for his younger brother, Sergei. Though she was of common birth, the two were madly in love, and she so enamored the court at Castle Ravenloft that almost no one would object to their union. Aside from Strahd, of course. He was so jealous of Sergei's ability to charm her that he murdered his brother on his wedding day, and caused Tatyana to fall from the castle's highest point to her death.
The Seeker
One of the three Fanes of Barovia. The Seeker's domain includes seeing and foretelling the future, and she rules the forest.
The Weaver
One of the three Fanes of Barovia. She is the keeper of the Weave and presides over the bogs and swamps.
Thornboldt Durst
Thornboldt, or "Thorn," was the son of Gustav and Elisabeth Durst. He died of starvation and dehydration along with his sister, Rosavalda, after being locked up in his bedroom.
Vezem Batsk
Not much is known about Vezem's early life, but his adulthood can be chronicled woman by woman, son by son. From the time he left home at 17, he had been a wanderer. That is the polite way to say it. He was a charlatan, a conman, a thief, and highly skilled in illusions and other magical trickery. That is the truth of it. In all, it's not clear how many children he sired, but he did have a favorite: The only one he kept in contact with, likely because of his promising skill with controlling the Weave, was Aberforth. The rest of his children were raised by their mothers alone, by another father figure, or in the worst cases, abandoned or orphaned. Though he always had a full coin purse, he spent his dragons (more accurately, shards) just as quickly as he got them. He was prone to vagrancy; sometimes, the beds he warmed were simply for a night or two so he didn't have to pay an innkeeper's fee. As such, he didn't have much to leave to his numerous offspring after he expired at a spry 70 years (He looked far younger than he was), leaving them all to find their own way in the world.
