Session 18 "Circling Sharks" Report

General Summary

....The Raven's Alliance proceeds down the rolling hills towards Alaca. The small port is busy with many of the sailors and dock hands moving back and forth between the various anchored vessels. The party sights the gargantuan Deismos in the harbor. Slinger explains to the rest of the party that he will be boarding in disguise as Gunthar explains that it might be a poor idea due to the letter Ryancy had given him. Slinger still proceeds away letting them know that he will return as "Erick".   The remainder of the Raven's Alliance proceed towards the Deismos where they are met at the gangplank by two armed guards of the 7th Legion. After exchanging words with Gunthar one of the guards proceeds up the gang plank and returns some time later with Darios, the ships bosun. Gunthar hands Darios the letter from Ryancy who confirms the seal and leads them on board to meet the captain. They are led to the captain's quarters and are introduced as the captain reads the letter from the 7th legion commander. She questions Gunthar on whether there is more information she needs before they proceed to Hawold and then enlightens the party that she has been given a list of their names, descriptions, and talents along with a copy of the wanted poster for Slinger. Gunthar explains to the captain about the mission and that Slinger will be posing as 'Erick' while on the voyage. The captain readily agrees and adjusts the passenger manifest and explains to the Raven's Alliance that they will be working along side the ships officers. Gunthar works directly with the captain, Rowan is introduced to the ship's first mate, a large half-orc by the name of Kreegor, Lilyanna is introduced to the ship's cook Tomias, and Isaac is led down the bottom deck to work with the ship's elderly quartermaster. After a time 'Erick' shows up at the bottom of the gangplank and one of the guards goes to retrieve Gunthar who tells the guards that he is on the manifest. They take his word as he is working directly with the captain.   After all are on board the ship prepares to depart with Rowan leading the rowers as they leave dock. All hands move fluidly to task and the soon the oars are brought in and the ship is asail. Over the first several days at sea the Raven's Alliance learns their tasks with minimal difficulties. Around the fourth day out in open water they notice a storm on the horizon and alert the captain. As she takes a look she alerts the crew to drop the sails and prepare for a storm. The storm soon becomes a hurricane force and the Raven's alliance and the Deismos crew work steadily to keep the ship afloat and with minimal damage. They scrape by through the storm and take stock finding that the ship has taken a bit of damage. Finding a nearby island on the charts, the captain sets course giving the Raven's Alliance orders to check the island for materials for repair and/or supplies. Anchored in the small bay they Raven's Alliance sets out by row boat towards the island.   As the Raven's Alliance gets closer and they notice a wreck of a vessel in the small inlet, Rowan and Gunthar get into a bit of a spat. Gunthar rocks the small craft not realizing that his weight with his armor on would be too much, and Rowan falls over the side. Unable to swim, Lillyanna turns into a crocodile and jumps into save him. Quickly coming to the gnome's aid she gets him to solid ground. Rowan in revenge starts to heat up Gunthar's armor causing the large dragonborn to also fall over the side of the craft. Quick thinking from their new 'dwarf' friend and some rope, Gunthar is pulled to the surface. After the party lands on the beach, Gunthar begins chasing Rowan and eventually catches him burying him up to his neck in sand. The rest of the party notice an old mine opening in the towering island mountains. 'Erick' enters the mine and unable to see sends his familiar out with hopes it might find something. The bat returns with no news and 'Erick' returns outside to find Gunthar chopping down a tree which inadvertently hits Lillyanna. After recovering the Raven's Alliance decides to investigate the mine while 'Erick' continues to work.   As the group moves forward they are ambushed by a large group of fishlike humanoids from a large chamber with a deep pool in the center of the room. After being struck several times, Rowan goes down as the rest of the party moves to his aid. Lilyanna turns into a giant tiger striking out at the creatures while Isaac tosses his magic stones into their midst. Gunthar charges forward causing many of the creatures to tremble frightened of his presence. Meanwhile 'Erick' hears the sounds of combat raging from inside and rushes to aid his fellows. Using a grease spell he causes many of the creatures to fall to the floor unable to keep their feet. Drawing his daggers he leaps over Lillyanna hitting the grease himself slipping but making it look purposeful striking out at two of the creatures. Regrouping the Raven's Alliance quickly clears the room and listening hears more of the creatures in the hallways on either side of the pool chamber. They brace themselves for what's to come.....
