Session 11: The Unsettling Fauna Report

General Summary

Returning to Kresk brought the familiar positive warmth running through them and in the square they meet a new face. She had a very pale complexion but a very pleasant smile. She was seen talking to some children before they ran off smiling and giggling. The party go and introduce themselves. She talks alot and offers the party chances to talk about themselves. Friend manages to catch one of the perfumes she has on her and strong scent of lavender overcomes friend in a sweet manner. Once there conversation finishes the party realised they never caught her name which seemed odd. Still they went up to the abbey to sleep off their worries. That night Friend who usually does not need sleep succumbed to a dream in where he met the lady from earlier that day. They were in a large conservatory with lots of wild plants that friend could not identify. She asked probing question about Strahd and what he was up to and Friend blissfully obliged. Then he awoke as if nothing had happened.   Friend relayed this dream to the group and went to restock supplies in the village when they noticed several missing signs for people of all ages. Thinking this was more than mere coincidence the party set to looking for this mysterious once again. They start to ask the town guard if they took her name. Upon checking there is a blank space where the name should be written, he embarrassingly says he must of made a mistake and kindly asks the party to not mention his mistake. They then move on to the family of the girl who was missing. They were inconsolable. What they did manage to get out was that she wondered off in the night not to be seen again. At this point the party head out of Kresk and survey the surrounding area.    In the forest to the south they hear a little girl crying. They go over to check and she points off by the cave saying the people are trapped in there. When the party try to touch the girl she winces away but upon further inspection the party reveal it is no more than an illusion. They head towards the cave anyway with weapons drawn but the cave mouth suddenly lurches forward. The mouth of the cave was disguising a giant plant aperture. Soon the party leapt into combat to save their members who had been swallowed by the monster. Midway through combat villagers started running in to attack the party and the sweet smell of lavender was smelt again. This time all their heads suddenly jerked in pain as their minds had been blasted by the scent. Eventually the plant was dispatched and the villagers melted down into grey mush. Most of the missing persons fell out of the various pods barely alive except for the little girl. All this had been too much for her small body too handle and so she perished. The party brought her back to Kresk for a service and from there the party knew to be wary of this woman.
