Fishery Fun pt. 2
General Summary
"Smoke and flame engulf the webs around you as the cavern rings with the sound of Luke's gunshot. The small man from a far away land stands triumphant over the corpse of a giant spider."
The party moves into the tunnel past the chamber. To the right is a barricade made of broken barrels, beyond which shuffling is heard. To the left the tunnel slopes down into the darkness. Luke and Eshma decide to scout to the left while Rezog sets the barricade on fire. Astara asks if Rezog has any hobbies. He enjoys woodcarving.
The tunnel appears to be a cave in from some older subterranean building. Eshma and Luke notice a stone door tucked away in the darkness above them. They grab the other two before exploring what lays beyond said door. First though everyone uses the wiry line cook as a ladder to get up the ledge, including the 7ft tall monk.
The stone door is carved with disturbing frescoes. Strangely dressed humans engage in war and depravity. The mysterious warriors also enslave various species before leading them into the dark below. Eshma proposes bringing this information to someone from the university while Luke takes an etching of the frescoes. They open the door.
"The door opens into a musty domed room. Alcoves in the walls hold the remenants of centuries old candles. In the center of the room is a queer shrine to some alien god. Armored in the same manor as the warriors on the door, the statue bears a cephalopod like head, black gemstone eyes gaze at you coldly, while it holds its clawed hands out toward you. Resting in its claws is a silver bowl holding remarkably clean and pure water."
The statue really spooks the group. Astara determines the water is magic while Rezog notices a chain symbolically carved into the idol's armor. Eshma deduces that this shrine hasn't been touched in centuries, meaning that what ever god held sway over it is either dead or not as powerful as they once were. Luke starts to pry out the statues eyes.
Rezog fills a bottle with the idol's water but when it touches his skin he feels some occult power try to influence him but he shakes it off. Luke dumps the consecrated water from the bull. Astara notes that the magic in the water starts to weaken before disappearing.
After some sinister statue fun the party sneaks "down" the hallway into a store room/holding cell. Four kobolds huddle around the cage trying to saw through the bars to accesss the crates piled in there. Luke decides to break stealth and speak with the kobolds. One of the kobolds, Sa, acts as diplomat, he also notices Eshma and Astara hiding in the tunnel. Rezog remains hidden.
After a brief back and forth and Luke unlocking the cage, Sa leaves to fetch a kobold who is more fluent in the trade tongue. In the meantime the three party members are asked to step inside the cage and look through the crates while the kobolds stand guard.
"You find eat give eat to Grex!" Eshma finds a bunch of mold that Grex eye's hungrily. Luke offers him and the other kobolds some jerky from his pack. Meanwhile Astara finds some items of note: a dagger and staff.
Sa returns with an older and leaner kobold wearing a copper chain decorated with a piece of eggshell with veins of red gold, named Vamir. Vamir speaks slowly and softly. He tells the tale of Blue Leaf Band of Kobolds.
"In the land that flies the banner of the real big fish..." Vamir and 24 other kobolds took a contract to renovate the sewers of the port city
Kar'inum to help support their tribe financially. After two years of work the advisor who hired them refuses to pay them and invokes an old decree barring kobolds from the lands held by the
Harvesters of the Deep. He then imprisoned the kobolds' leader. The remaking workers fled across the bay, after robbing the advisor's estate.
Once established in the old smuggler's fort, the kobold's elected the imprisoned leader's daughter,
Lady Zolgryn, to lead them. Zolgryn wished to seek vengeance against Kar'inum. This would be achieved by one of the things stolen from the advisor's estate- a dragon's egg. Once hatched the
"Kakul'yah" required more food than the kobold's were prepared for, hence the robbery of fish from the fishery.
Vamir does not like to see his people driven by vengeance and worries that Zolgryn's plan to burn the city is a misuse of the kakul'yah and will lead all his people to ruin. He asks the party to help him "convince" Zolgryn to give up her hate and help them escape back to
Ara-Yun.
