Session 9 - Return to Bodrain Report

General Summary

The party returned to Bodrain with all due haste, making great time and avoiding any further encounters despite taking limited travel precautions.  Still injured, and and now exhausted, they made their report to the Mayor, and she initiated their established plan to evacuate as many as possible to within the Wooden palisades of the town.  Zojat, the goblin member of the town guard, was asked to scout and discover the direction from which the raid force was attacking, and the blacksmiths were asked to upgrade Din and Kringle's weapons with their newfound runes while the party rested.   Upon waking, the party rearmed themselves and received Zojat's report:  The raid force is coming in from the east, they number somewhere around 150, as well as a couple dozen giant rat ogres and several large packs of dire rats and their leader was a slightly larger rat wearing robes and shouting orders from a palanquin.  The party, correctly interpreting that the skaven would become disorganized and might rout if the leader were killed.  They decided to circle around stealthily and kill the leader of the raid force.   While they were nearly revealed by two outriders, they managed to kill them before they raised an alarm.  They engaged the leader just the vanguard breached the eastern gate.  By the time they had killed the Acolyte grey seer, three squads had entered the town, along with 5 rat ogres.  Those not within the walls saw their leader die, and are breaking, routing and fleeing, searching for a way back into the underdark without being caught out by the party.
