Session III: Elysium

General Summary

Tonight is the 5th of December 1952, minutes past midnight, and no one is moving. You are to the back of the cold London Mithraeum, a sunken temple where, once upon a time, Mithras was worshipped by kine and Kindred alike. This time it is less of a place of worship and more of a place of intrigue, the stage of tonight's Elysium. The walls are carved to show the likeness of ancient gods - Mercury to the left, to guide the souls of the dead; Serapis to the right, mongrel god of knowledge and arcane enlightenment. Behind the ornate marble throne on the furthest wall of the room, a life-sized sculpture of Mithras-as-god, arms spread with a benevolent smile. On the throne sits Queen Anne, petite and delicate, wrapped in a roman-styled robe held together by a sword-and-sceptre pin on her right shoulder. Her chestnut hair cascades in ringlets over her freckled shoulders as she leans forward, blue eyes sweeping over the crowd hanging on to her every, single, word.   "Welcome to Elysium," she speaks in a tone too gentle to not sound detached. "Do enjoy yourselves."

Cordially Invited

The story of the night starts in the afternoon, when the Kindred of London raise. With rouse checks out of the way, the narrative focuses on Ava Brooks for the moment. She spends a couple of hours preparing for Elysium, by trying to get into contact with the Sheriff to give her report, she ultimately gives up on that as Rowena seems to be busy elsewhere. Ava decides to make sure that Konstantin knows the protocol before walking into the wolf's den.

A Birdie Told Me

At Elysium, they both seem to find their own footing, as Konstantin approaches Miss Beatrice Price accompanied by Thomas Camden, while Ava tries to find her Sheriff for the report she wished to give her.   Following Konstantin, he has a thorough discussion with Miss Beatrice and Thomas. Although agreeing with Konstantin on most points, they believe the Tremere capable of such blood magic rituals has to be an old one, but also quite high up in the Chantry to have access to the knowledge they would require to perform the spell alongside the Tzimisce. Konstantin suggests Mister Thyme as a possible suspect and the other two agree. They inform him that they will meet Queen Anne that night to discuss what is there to do against the infliction.   On the other side of the ballroom, Ava tries to meet Rowena but Nina, the Scourge of West London, intercepts her. She tells Ava, in no unclear terms, that she knows Ava is in contact with a Caitiff. In retaliation, Ava informs her it's impolite to involve yourself in matters that do not concern you. Nina seems upset by this and leaves with a comment among the lines of "I was trying to do you a favour".   Afterwards, Ava finally reaches Rowena and informs the Sheriff of what she found out about the investigation she was sent on. In response, Rowena informs her of the meeting with Queen Anne that Ava was not aware of. This furthers panics Ava, since she believes she failed for letting Penelope in on the investigation through the invitation.

Long Live Queen Anne

Ava tries to collect Konstantin to give him a heads-up about the meeting, but Mister Thyme gets to him first. The Regent, while holding unto Konstantin, starts the conversation by making sure that the Tremere still remembers where his loyalties lay then continues with suggesting to Konstantin that he needs to visit the Regent and give him a full report. The warlock agrees under duress.   After the short encounter, Ava intercepts Konstantin before he can talk to anyone else. She quickly takes him through the events of the evening and informs him of the meeting with the Queen. They decide to tell the truth if asked about the investigation and be as honest as possible.   At the meeting, Konstantin reveals what his research brought forward, while Ava shares her part of the investigation. In return, Queen Anne admits that she is also affected by the disease affecting London. To help with finding a cure, she gives free reign to Ava and Konstantin to do whatever needs to be done to get to the bottom of the issue, including interrogating high-ranking officials of the Camarilla or killing important members of Kindred Society.   Both Beatrice Price and Thomas Camden agree with the reveals made by the two.   The Story ends as the meeting ends.
