Session #73: Choices and Consequences

General Summary

Taken from the Journal of Clarence Clearwater as know by Ouritzo the Black   We delved back ever deeper into that cursed frozen ravine; Nuwl, Neil, Nyx and I clearing out a couple of frost giants as they slept. The remaining two giants fought against us for a short battle, until our might overwhelmed them forcing them to flee further down into the darkness they had sprung from. "Greater threats await those who dare." After looting the giants bodies we found gold armbands and sacks of gold, we decided that as Nuwl and Neil both took massive hits from the giants weapons we should go back to camp to rest and recover from our injuries. So we scavenged what we could and were off once more. I magically enlisted the aid of some ghouls to help us carry out our loot, which made the process quick and painless to accomplish. After a few days we returned to the ravine to clear out the western side of the map before going further down in the lair. We went through some previously cleared rooms, and with a particularly impressive spell, Nyx was able to make a wall there/not there giving us the ability to sneak up upon our enemies. I was able to strike one down as it slept giving us an advantage of surprise for the rest of them. "Another impediment cleared with impunity." It was here when we began casting spells: summoning ghouls, throwing bolts of lighting, blowing clouds of poison, and rending the flesh from their bones with spheres of necromancy. Nuwl and Neil were backstabbing and slaying these filth with their mighty swords. It was then when we were pushing them on the back foot that we acted hastily. "For every miscalculation, a consequence." Nuwl was struck down by one of those fiends. Two swings of a sword brought my friend low. we quickly reacted with spells, summoning more ghouls for aid this time to delay the inevitable attacks upon the rest of my comrades and one to help carry my friends body back for divine restitution. Surely the gods would aid us now like they had previously, either his god or any one of mine... "Death had come to claim its elusive prize!" My dear friend had been denied life as deaths cold grip was held firm upon Sir Robb's attempts to revive him... So I did what must be done. "What man is he who defies Death by sheer force of will?" One that has been dreading this moment for months, one that has hoped that this moment would never come; I asked him for a favor. Bring my friend back, and he did. And the cost... too unfathomable to know. And so Nuwl breaths again, and I wait for the consequences of my own actions.
