Character Report by Illarion
Ouritzo, Nyx, Sir Rob, and I all ventured back into the Rift, working into yet unknown and unexplored parts of the Glacier. Nyx allowed us to disbelieve part of a wall, giving us quick access into a tunnel that, according to the map, would lead us into newer places. We crept in, lighting our way, though we were mostly invisible. I sent some Dancing Lights from my ring out ahead of us, which attracted the inane curiosity of an ogre denizen, then several more. I used the lights to gather several more, than indicated to Ouritzo that he should hit them with a sphere. It went about like one would expect. Several more ogres tried to charge us, but they couldn't hit Sir Rob. I followed up with a fireball, but slightly miscalculated the explosive volume and brushed Sir Rob with it. No major injuries, merely inconveniences as his backpack and belt pouch burnt away and his excessive equipment clattered to the floor. We played hide and seek with the few remaining ogres, but we found them and finished them. Nyx did seem to have some trouble with her magic missile spell; something about her magic is ... inconsistent. We found a large amount of coin, gems, jewelry, and a couple potions of healing, which Nyx and I kept. Then Sir Rob complained of tiredness, so we retreated back to the hideout. A few days later, Nyx, Ouritzo, and I went back in the same way we did the day before, but then started in toward room 9. Unfortunately, frost giants are much more intelligent than ogres and the ruse of invisibility did not fool them for long. A frost giant came to investigate us before we could come up with an attack plan and it was so close to me I could've braided it's leg hair. I can't fully recall all that happened, but many spells were cast as we fled through the tunnel. Misfortune upon misfortune, the noise attracted the attention of a troop of yetis, but Nyx seemed to have handled several of them with her wand of ice and drove them away in fear. As I brought up the rear, giants hacking through my mirror images, I slung a fireball into a few, Nyx winged in a necrotic sphere, then Ouritzo surprised them with a cloudkill from the tunnel junction, then ran for the ledge. I then prepared our fantastic getaway: my Spare Room. The door was placed, then Ouritzo surprised the giants with another cloudkill by having spider climbed above the entrance opening [above marker 29], which heavily wounded many of them. I flew out into the open area beyond the ledge, presenting my middle finger to the giants to keep them in the fight. One threw a boulder at me, which shattered against my pre-prepared stoneskin, obscene gesture remaining. Nyx shot him to pieces with her magic missiles, then I doubled up: double middle fingers to the last visible giant, then double-handed magic missiles to drop him where he stood. We all then fled into my door, whence I write this entry. Lesson Learned: Stoneskin is a fantastic defense, even (and especially) against frost giants. Worth the prep time.
