The year is 850P.D.   Nearly 15 years after the effects of the Mighty Nein on Wildemount, and almost 40 since the foiling of Vecna’s ascension at the hands of Vox Machina in Tal’Dorei. Much has changed in the world.   Having witnessed the rise of two major groups of Adventurers. The denizens of the world became inspired to follow in their footsteps, but in just over a decade, what was intended by most to be a “fix” to the various problems of the world. Ended up giving inordinate amounts of power, to those who desired power most of all.   Warehouses were robbed. Political, Religious, and Guild Leaders, Assassinated. Villages and Townships getting slaughtered in their entirety. Countless crimes of varying degrees committed under the pretense of a “quest”. Because, when those who wished to seize power realized that the origins and purpose of a quest could be obfuscated when working outside of traditional “Law”, They took advantage.   Who’s to say all of the townsfolk weren’t under some mysterious magical affliction destined to ruin the world and that's why there are no survivors to say otherwise? Who’s to say that the “adventurer” wasn’t on a quest from their “God”. No accord could be made, no punishments fairly adjudicated, and the world began to descend into chaos.   Balancing on the brink of societal collapse, the leaders of the world met. Having witnessed the true heroes of history at work, they agreed that something must be done to rein in the lawlessness of this newly established “Profession”. A quasi-governmental organization was formed, with input and funding from some of the world's most respected and wealthy. The Exandrian Adventuring Company was founded for the sole purpose of licencing adventurers, to take up legally recorded quests. The effect was tremendous, and order was quickly restored now that a legal process could be adjudicated correctly. And so, The various regions of the world returned to their previous state of loose alliances, thin peace agreements, and isolationism.
