Session 58: The Aquarium Report

General Summary

The party decides that dealing with the giant crab that has one of the weapons is more pressing. As such, they decide to leave all the giant monsters alone.

They realize that Selina is immune to disease and can climb, and Hunter is upset because he got SUPER TETANUS. Seklyn anchors a piton and declares that Virion's rope will be used. Selina falls on the other side, gets lacerated, but doesn't get super tetanus. Virion, the prisoner (the other two are tied up in the hall), and then Mystan and Bubbles cross without incident.

Bluto got across by filling the pits with bodies.

They then put all of their metal in bags of holding and begin crossing the metal plate hallway. Virion and Selina go through, then the prisoner, then Bubbles and Mystan. The prisoner protests, for his name is Gomes. His wife died, and M is going to ressurect her.

They enter the seaweed room and a Kelpie is identified by Bubbles. She tries to talk to the party, but Bubbles isn't hearing it. The acid sword slashes through kelpie twice, and the creature is bloodied. The kelpie disengages and swims away, but Bubbles dives in and attacks. With one hit, the creature dies. The acid works underwater only when in the wound. Mystan only saw thrashing in the water and then stillness. Assuming that Bubbles defeated the Kelpie, Mystan debates what to do. Fearing these plant-monsters are undead, he uses "Turn Undead". Nothing happens, so he leaps across. The Kelpie tries to grab him but fails horribly. Mystan reaches the other side, and Seklyn runs up and uses her line and hook to pull the kelpie onto the land. Selina then punches the Kelpie. Failing to stun her and learning the kelpie resists fire, she uses a lightning punch and again fails to stun the Kelpie.

Virion, finally, gets his act together. He cries "Luz!" and attacks with his Sunblade. He does max damage! He attacks again and the kelpie is nearly dead. It disengages and flees. Bubbles, unaware of this, swims towards the party. They see the second Kelpie's wake and rushes towards it, cutting it down in a single blow.

Bubbles goes into the Kelpies' den and fins 600gp, a very espenxive looking diamond necklace, and a suit of fancy-looking chainmail. They pocket the gold and take the necklace and chainmail back to the others. The chainmail goes into the bag of holding, while Selina and Virion argue over the jewelry. Bubbles hands Mystan the necklace. Seklyn flies across with her rope, while Virion teleports with Misty Step. The rope is then used to pull Gomes, Bubbles, and Mystan across.

But, while Mystan is being pulled over, a flaming arrow is shot across and sets the oil on fire.

Virion teleports inside with Misty Step. He finds a werewolf wizard and a veteran, and they engage in combat. The werewolf, Snarla, casts Thunderwave while Virion stabs the bowman. They claim to work for Keraptis and are under his orders. And after Virion slashes the bowman twice with his Sunblade, rather than a cauterized wound he leaks water.

Selina then throws open the door and, with Snarla's Thunderwave trigger done, she is caught unprepared and then dragged towards Seklyn and stunned. He then shoves her into the fire and kicks her.

Bubbles fires a shit ton of ice arrows to kill Snarla. Burket trades blows with Virion, and then Mystan runs in. He heals Virion and casts Toll the Dead, nearly killing Burket. Virion gives Burket one last chance to surrender, and when he resfuses, Virion attacks. Burket dodges, and then Virion hits, killing him. Both corpses melt into water, like snowmen. After the fire burns through all the oil, Bubbles can get across decently fine. The copper chokers seem magical. Virion also grabs Snarla's spellbook, but a glyph of warding goes off! It explodes, but Virion survives and gets the book.

They open the door and find a lavishly decorated, beautiful room. Within is a chest. Selina thinks everything but the chest is an illusion. They check if the chest is a mimic; it is not. A Stinking Cloud spell goes off, but Selina is immune to poison so she's fine. She takes out 400 electrum peices and 300 gold pieces from a foregin country. None of the party recognizes the denomination of currency. They are circular with square holes and odd symbols. There are also seven gems.

Given how injured they are, the party decides to take a long rest. Selina has a dream. It's that same dream, but now the bear is the threat. It's mad that Seklyn rejected it, speaking with we/us pronouns. Selina rejected the bear's power, then wished for power to protect her family. Also, the bear had red eyes and horrifying antlers/horns. Virion, meanwhile, had a vision of when the Keoish and the Silverstand first worked together to fight the Cult of the Eternal Flame. He sees a Keoish Admiral fighting with a black sword adorned with stars; it causes him great fear.

In the... morning? (It's about the 36th of Deep Winter). They find the massive solid door of metal. With Bubbles and Seklyn's combined strength, the door opens. They open the other two doors, each adorned with flood like imagery. They come face to face with a huge hermit crab. Seklyn using step of the wind to disengage after running up to the crab, and then slides beneath it. She dashes as an action and opens the chest. Within is Wave and a lot of treasure. She then runs, sliding underneath the crab again, and hurls Wave at the party. Virion catches it.

Given there was other treasure, the party decides to kill the crab. Mystan casts Hold Monster and the crab is paralyzed. Deciding that the paralyzed crab is a good target, Bubbles risks using the Javelin of Lightning. The crab takes an ungodly amount of damage. Bubbles then shoots it twice, hitting all of them. Virion activiates his bladesong and starts putting loot into the bag of holding.

Seklyn runs back and puts more into the bag. With the bag full, Selina and and Virion retreat and grab the lightning javelin. They then retreat to get out of the doors. Then, they get ready to close the three doors. Bubbles shoots the bubble. They rush to close the doors, and the crab's screams are drowned out in a deluge of boiling water.

The party thinks about where to go next; the hatch, or the manticores. They decide on the manticores. Virion can cast Fireball to take out the wing-clipped manticores, and Mystan Summon Celestial to fly everyone down.

Virion casts Fireball at 6th level and burns a bunch of monsters. The Manticores retaliate with a volley tail spikes, and Virion dodges all of them. Virion casts Fireball at 5th level this time, and now the creatures flee and run. Virion casts Fireball once more after repositioning himself, again at 5th level. More volleys miss and more creatures flee. Virion then casts Fireball for a fourth time, now only at 3rd level. Using Summon Celestial, they descend.

Seeing the safe, Selina and Bubbles break it open. Within are more old coins, 6,000 sp and a piece of fine currency. Everyone flies out except Bubbles, who makes a break for the door. They rest, and then descend the staircase. At the bottom, staring out at a feild of magma, is M. Muertio, the Magician.
