Session 61: Exeunt Report

General Summary

It is the 38th of Deep Winter.

Seklyn has spores from Mossmutter, going to give to Aryz. They're inside a box.

Mystan starts scrying and Saprophis goes all "double double boil and trouble", and he has to tell the gnome to let him concentrate.

In the vision, Mystan sees an obsidian beach and a pier made of old ships' boards. They see Duergar moving mining equipment onto small boats. They are offloading adamatine Their leader has an adamantine sword. Finally, a strange, tall figure in a cloak with a neutral theatre mask orders a few of the duergar in an unknown language that is uncomfortable to hear.

The party question where to go; they could go back but they want to help with the duergar. But they can't! They tell Mossmutter that they can't help.

But wait! Sir Bluto's people had rowboats! They can use those!

"The Leviathan, born of the arcanowaste Keraptis left behind, swims the molten seas at the center!" - a bit of dungeon graffiti.

Mossmutter called the leviathan his brother.

Selina handed Virion the wand that the drow skeleton had in room 65. They found another room full of gray, scaly fungus with a mold wyrm skeleton.

Virion figures Mossmutter killed it over a territorial dispute.

In traveling through the tunnels they are attacked by three blood oozes! One grapples Selina while the other two use breath weapons on the rest of the party! Seklyn uses Aspect of the Wyrm to give everyone resistance to acid damage. She then starts stabbing the ooze with her spear. She hits once and misses once! Bubbles starts stabbing with their magical arrows, they drop one but hit with another. They then fumble their wavecutter blade!

Mystan pops off Spirit Guardians at fourth level! Two out of three fail, and they all have impeded range. Virion activates bladesong, and a radiant light is accompanied by chanting music. He strikes the ooze with his sword, and then attacks again with green flame blade.
Mystan's spell burns through them more, and one flees and then is destroyed by Virion. An ooze tries to attack Selina but misses, but another hits Bubbles--but they parry! Selina is still grapples, but she stabs the enemy anyways! Then he punches the ooze with lightning. It resists!

Bubbles tries to resist the grapple but fails! They then rally the party, giving Mystan some temp HP. Mystan then summons a spiritual weapon! The draconic claw slices the ooze, and then a Toll the Dead kills it!

Bubbles thanks Mystan, and then Virion brings his burning blade to bear against the final blood ooze, slaying it in two swoops.

Virion uses Prestidigitation to clean everyone off. Mystan casts Mass Cure Wounds to heal everyone as well. They go to the next room, and find the Basin of Boundless life. Selina cautiously takes a sip, and is restored. But, Mystan and Virion slip into the pool! They are able to use Greater Restoration to heal themselves, but Virion nearly got cancer. At least they're all healed up. To heal Bubbles without risking needing a Greater Restoration that they don't have, Bubbles passes on drinking from the basin.

They circle back around to the old labratory areas, and Selina ends up fire-punching a door. She successfully does twice, but the door bites her hand off. She stumbles back, screaming "oh fuck oh fuck it took my hand oh shit."

Bubbles searches the room and finds a small periapt, a leather gauntlet, and a six-foot tall glass tube, within which is the suspended body of a male humanoid with mirror-like skin. On the tube is a red outline of a humanoid hand.

Bubbles considers breaking the tube, but everyone else is like "woah woah woah, maybe don't, hang on."

"Why not, they're trapped?"

"I think we should figure out what we're dealing with first."

"How do you want to do that?"

Selina asks Virion to look into it. He figures the mirror-skinned figure is suspended in animation. Bubbles puts their hand on the handprint, and then suddenly they attack Virion!

Virion dodges the attack but Bubbles attacks again and critically hits! The acid splashes onto Virion, internally injuring them. Mystan blocks a third attack, but an action surge means more attacks! They shove Virion, and he resists, shouting for Bubbles to stop! They respond in old undercommon, "get thee out of my way!" and Selina translates. Virion staggers out of the way. Bubbles runs, but Selina tries to get them, but evasive footwork nearly stops them, but it doesn't work! Seklyn hits them, dropping their movememnt speed to 0.

Seklyn tries to stun Bubbles, but they block with their shield! She then hits them again, and they aren't stunned. Selina isn't using lightning damage. In undercommon he says "please stop trying to kill us!"

"Let me leave!"

"We think you've taken your friends' body! We'll give you yours back and take it out!"

"Let me go."

"Look, I can't, you have our friends' body. It's important to them. Plus like, do you want to live as a fish person?"

"And I need to get as far away as possible."

Virion casts Hold Person and Bubbles fails despite being a Locatha. Seklyn, trying to figure out what's going on, also puts their hand on the tube. Bubbles's mind is then in Selina, and Selina in the tube. So they go through the process of swapping Seklyn and Bubbles are swapped again, and then Bubbles's body is made to touch the glass and Bubbles is back in their own body.

Hold Person is dropped, and Virion says, "that almost killed me." Bubbles responds, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect that to happen."

Virion and Selina warn against caution, and Selina questions how often Bubbles ends up in situations around freeing people.

"I will say, being stuck in the tube was unpleasant. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. We should still free him."

Virion tries Dispell Magic at fifth level, and Virion successfully dispells the tube! The figure in the glass starts to violently convulse, and Selina and Bubbles breaks him out. They talk in Undercommon about how he's sorry about the elf and he couldn't stay in there. He was stuck there for centuries. He doesn't remember his own name. Selina proposes the name "Flect", but he hates it as it reminds him of Reflect. Bubbles proposes "Jim", and they take Jim up to the beach.

They also fetch the boats and discuss whether or not to go to Firewatch Island first or go back to Seaton/Saltmarsh. They ultimately decide to deal with the Duergar first, then return to Seaton/Saltmarsh with the weapons.

Virion suddenly shouts "holy shit!" as he realizes that there has to be a teleportation circle somewhere in the dungeon. That means Virion could get the sequences, they could return at their will! He has a wild-eyed look.

"that way we can get weapons back and then return better prepared to deal with the mining," says Bubbles, "stop war then help moss mutter"

Selina asks about the empire, and Bubbles points out they don't have to tell the empire. Virion agrees not to tell them about the rune sequences, or the adamantine chain.

The plan now is the clear out the dungeon and find the teleportation circle. They can return to Seaton/Saltmarsh then to deliver prisoners, refugees, and weapons. They can get healed at Port Ountzous and then teleport back to the islands to help Mossmutter and deal with the duergar.
