Session VIII: Mysteries of Hullidak Report

General Summary

It was an odd scene, picking up the pieces of the mess that was Hullidak. The party spread out to explore the place:

    • Freya found a switch that revealed a secret set of stairs
    • Kethra found information on who they were dealing with
    • Arkeshia found a locked case and plenty of food
    • Bailiwick interrogated the two survivors
The group was sitting pretty with their very own fort. Well, it wasn't officially theirs but there was no one present to claim otherwise. Unvealing the secret passage Kethra and Freya decended into the bowels of the fort to find a stone door closed tightly from powerful druidic magic with a warning of "Danger ahead."
  The stairs continued further down but the pair decided it would be too dangerous to head down by themselves. Closing the secret door the party decided to rest for the night. As things were winding down Kethra took the life of Snat and felt compelled to kill Deeno. That was stopped by Bailiwick placing him under his care.
  In the dead of night Deeno attempted to flee but was quickly caught by the Paladin and resigned to his captivity.
  With the morning's arrival the party ventured down with Deeno being forced to lead the way. Using his familiar Bailiwick lit the corridor via a torch but also triggered some traps along the way. Coming upon a large door Deeno inspected it and stated it was trapped. He attempted to disarm it and failed, warping him away.
  The room opened up to a trashed room where on the otherside a scream of pain could be heard in a muffled tone as a writhing zombie moved towards the group. Upon slashing the zombie it split open and a swarm of spiderlings charged the team.
  Once dispatched, the team unlocked the door and found the charred remains of Deeno. Deciding to venture a bit further opening the door to the next room only to find webbing. A voice calls out in Undercommon, which unsettles Kethra. A large spider appears at the doorway and Kethra retreats. Bailiwick moves forward with Freya in-tow. The spider isn't overtly hostile to them and thus isn't treated as an out-right threat, despite Kethra wanting nothing to do with this.
  Freya attempts to speak with the spider who had no interest in speaking Common tongue. When "Speak with Animals" was used the spider then feared for Freya as Lolth took over and caused the halfling to faint. When Freya awoke she had no recollection of who anyone was.
  The spider, now compelled by Lolth inquired if Kethra would hand over the cure to the Frigid Woe that she had.
