Session 3: Training Day

General Summary

From the Journal of Olimar McNaugh'stee:

As I anxiously awaited tomorrows training day i spent the evening at the Wasted Pasty getting to know my new travelling companions. We discussed the joys of sleeping under the stars and Fern shared that they have the uncanny ability to create a shelter just about anywhere! I personally enjoy just laying on my blanket under the stars, and Robin, well that strange laddie is smitten with the fervor of a recent Palladins Oath. She prefers a sheepskin blanket and her horses saddle for a pillow over what I believe may have been a very cushy former life.

After this lively discussion we all looked at each other and decided “lets get a room!”. After all, we all enjoy the creature comforts of a warm bed and the opportunity to clean up a bit.

In the mornin as we headed to the training grounds I couldn’t help but notice that Fern had found their Vulture friend from the previous days attack on the boat. I wonder if that druid and the creature have formed a bond of some sorts, time will tell I guess.

As we head to the town center where what looks like a training ground has been set up. Lot of those GreyBlades around. Funny thing is they don’t have a uniform, but you can spot one a mile away just by what they’re wearing. I tried to say ‘isn’t that what a uniform is?’ but apparently not.

Good old Skye Sprinkleheart ushers us and a bunch of other would be adventurers into the training area where we are introduced to our first trial. Ha! One single GreyBlade with a shield and longsword. I immediately underestimate our opponent and charge him like any good McNaugh’stee would do. Fern and Robin follow my lead and what we found out is, ‘dudes got a good shield’ and he fended off all our attacks. Then the brute knocked me to the ground like I was nothing but a wee little elf! Well good adventurers learn from their mistakes and we all tried a different tactic. Robin found a way to shove the GreyBlade to the ground and bust his balls a bit, and Fern, well Fern surprised us with some powerful magic and summoned vines from the earth to entangle the poor fella. He quickly yielded and the trial was done.

Well we must have done alright cause next thing we know we’re getting introduced to The Mayor! He gave us some scrolls and asked us a bunch of questions about who we are and where we’re from blah blah blah. You know it’s funny but I kind of got the feeling that ole Robin was a little uncomfortable about this. I suppose that knight is hiding a secret from his past. Well, none of my business! Let’s get to killing some monsters!

Mayor Humdinger gives us the lowdown. There’s rumours of objects of great power on the island. There’s a bunch of monsters that have over-run the island. Each monster we slay gets us a reward and we can’t lie about it because they have zone of truth.

We also get a GreyBlade babysitter named Marshall coming with us. Don’t know what to think about that. Well, let’s get a good nights sleep and lets get on with it.

Robins Secret:

  • Robin is reluctant to give his surname because Robin has a secret. Robin is the heir to the throne which he really isn’t interested in, it’s too boring. In his country’s laws if the heir is gone for 2 years and no one knows his whereabouts then the family must, by law, select a new heir.
