Neutral Human (The human slaves are only useful to the elves as long as they are fit to do the work required of them. Thus when Dyre was born, obviously deformed, his mother hid him from her elven masters, saying that the child had died in child birth. When Dyre was 5 he was discovered and the elves, after beating his mother near to death, threw him out into the wild to die of exposure on a monster’s teeth. Dyre did not die. Unimaginably he survived for days but despite his dogged insistence to keep living, there was only so much a small child could do in such an unforgiving place. It was this fortitude which drew the attention of the Rat King. This creature of terrible magic came to him as a mass of rats with their tails fused together. It offered him a choice: survive or die and promised him that life would be worse than death. Dyre chose life. Thus began his life as a wererat. When the curse was laid upon him by the bite of one of the Rat King’s minions, he transformed into a large rat and joined the swarm. The Rat King named him Meinar which meant Diseased One. Together, he and the rats would move through the wild swarming and consuming other creatures, finding strength in numbers. After years of this Dyre’s human form started to push through and he gradually transformed from his rat form into a rat human hybrid. There were others like him in the swarm and they became his new family. It was still a brutal existence and more often than not he had to claw and fight for his food against the other rats and wererats but there was also acceptance and whatever passed as affection between these greedy wild creatures. The more Dyre grew closer to his human form the more he longed to not only be human again, but to interact with humans. His best memories were those of his mother and they were soft warm memories. One day, Dyre found something that would change his life. It was a bow. The rats had swarmed and consumed a group of humans, maybe slaves trying to escape. One of them had a short bow which remained undamaged and while the other wererats grabbed clubs and whatever blades the humans had, Dyre took the bow. He started to practice with it and became an excellent shot after long hours of practice. He grew more distant from the swarm and would often hunt by himself. He especially enjoyed hunting elves. Once, when he approached a group of humans working for the elves, they shunned him despite the fact that he had now completely transformed back to his human form. He was still deformed and on top of that was filthy and smelled. It became clear to Dyre that humans were as bad as the elves and he hunted them too when he could. Despite his skill he could still not survive alone and would often interact with the swarm but the swarm became more and more distrustful of him. One day the Rat King reappeared and it and the swarm approached Dyre, forcing him to make the choice about life or death again. This time Dyre fled, wanting to remain human. He had seen this coming and had built a makeshift raft to take him to the Blackdon. It was another harrowing journey but he arrived at the island. As before, people shunned him but surviving on the streets was significantly easier than surviving in the wild. After a time his skill as an archer and ability to navigate and survive the wild bought him some respect and he would go with ships that went to the mainland to hunt and fight. )
