Maven is strolling through a neighborhood but is overcome with emotions by the sheer number of people nearby and their overwhelming grief. She begins to transform into their likenesses rapidly, nearly melting down until she stabilizes by shifting into her monstrous form. At that moment, IERA agents spot her on cameras and dispatch two of their REA Team 5 members to the site -- Night Owl and Agent E aka "George".
Night Owl hears Goerge moving down the street from far away, so she flies up and over the building to locate him. George is having a bad day and can't see out of his visor.
George had not met Night Owl previously, so they exchange introductions and agree to face Maven together. But all the while, Maven could smell them both from a distance and was tracking toward them steadily.
Stretching with her slimy skin, Maven reaches out to Agent E with her claw-like hands, missing him at first. Agent E responded with his electro-rod, but it missed Maven's swirling appendages. Maven responded again with more ferocity and a growl, slicing through George's armor again and again. Blood flowed.
Seeing her partner in distress, Night Owl swooped in and carried him to safety after narrowing missing Maven in her own attempt at a flurry of flying punches.
Now safely perched atop the abandoned building, George takes a moment to recover and Night Owl looks down upon Maven. Large spikes protrude from Maven's skin as she growls upward at Night Owl. And with that, the two engage in a quick tussle of fists and spikes. Night Owl flying with blistering speed around Maven, she was unable to land a solid punch. And the same, Maven's spikes never connected with Night Owl as she flew far away to avoid Maven's stretching claws.
In a moment of clarity, Maven ran into the building and shifted into the shape of a homeless person inside...scrambling out of sight, once more evading the IERA.
