Session 90: Corpses & Copses

General Summary

  The Dragon Punchers left Osdra in the care of two Bahamites outside of Merchevo. On the borders of the Wending Woods, along with Eran, Olivine, and Dee, the party met the final member of their team: Hawthorne Sandalwood. The gruff halfling woman was to guide the group through the treacherous forest. With luck, they would of locate the source of the griefgalls.   Hawthorne and Chari took point. The women expertly navigated the undergrowth, avoiding the lure (and attention) of local flora and fauna. As shadows lengthened and twilight fell upon the woods, the group came upon a copse of trees. Griefgall hosts lounged, chatting amiably, under a single, alien-looking plant . While not particularly dangerous looking, the party did not wish to take chances. Jinn, as Amadine, snuck around the trunk and began to eliminate the enthralled individuals. The attack sent the strange plant into a frenzy.   The blight tree summoned smaller sylvan creatures to its aid, and the party soon found themselves fighting for their lives amid thralls and animated foliage. The Bahamites fought bravely, but were overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Eran's sister, Olivine, and their companion Dee, fell in battle. Fortunately, Bart's quick reaction and a little divine intervention brought back life and limb. When the battle was won and the dust had cleared, all emerged triumphant--the remnants of the tree simply a shattered stump.   In the aftermath of the fight Bart explained the full scope of the Dragon Punchers' mission to Hawthorne and her team. Jinn, for his part, began exploring the site. The elf spotted an unknown half-orc lurking on the outskirts of the copse, watching the party. Jinn, catching him unaware, quickly dispatched the stranger. A quick search of the body revealed a sigil of Melora similar to those found in the scarecrows outside town. With night pressing in on them, the group elected to camp for the evening. Decisions could be made in the morning.
