Session 1: New Beginnings

People have been going missing from Meda for 6 months now. The land has always been dangerous but 6 people in as many months is extreme even for this area. The mayor Corrin Aubessar and the Lawkeeper Isobel Bluewillow is at their wits end, and the mayor has offered up a personal relic to those who dare go out and find what happened to the missing people. You have all volunteered to do this as there is no one better suited to do so. The reward also helps. Bree contacted Ari and Cal to help when they got word of the disappearances, knowing they are capable and worked in that area before. They felt this was important enough to leave their comfortable life and come help as well. Channah lives in Meda and also take personal interest in the disappearances, but also have worked with Ari and Cal before, thanks to Bree's recommendation. Bash have also done some jobs with the team previously.   Sam Pellier went fishing, all they found was his backpack containing a few sandwiches.   Elyot Seid went to pick berries and was never found.   The Scent After Rain ("Rain") went out to check on a noise in the fields one night and was never seen again.   Skylar Freethorn tried to find Rain but was last seen near the eastern forest.   Velia Mabane went to the logging camp in the eastern forest but never made it.   Christobal Grassgloom was out gathering herbs near the eastern mountains and never came back

Session Zero

Topic List Do we want to continue with:   Energy check in:   The Rotating Recapper:   Discussion topics • What are your expectations from this campaign? What do you want to get out from this? This ties in to the question below as I'm leaning more and more to less rules, more rule of cool, rp and less board game (which is why I'm interested in other systems etc)   • What system should we play in?   • Character Party fit - That 'loner' character? Are they allowed? If so, at what limits? Is it ok if a PC just tags along ONLY to do combat & avoid anything social? D&D is a social based game, you may wish to encourage your players to create characters that play well with others and that will fit with the party. On the other hand, you may want to be mindful about players potentially bullying other players into playing races & classes they do not want to play. Party fit should not limit class & race choice.   • How do we create a group that want to stay in the group/how do we create characters that want to stay in the group? Suggestions welcome! Childhood friends? In the same club? Found family? Bringing more than one character concept to session zero?   • How do you feel about answering minor worldbuilding prompts in game? I've been playing a lot of dungeon world and there the GM prompts the players to take part of the world building. I've implemented this in my Frostmaiden game and I think it's fun and my players enjoy it. Example from my last Frostmaiden game: DM: "You enter the temple, the architecture is clearly of dwarven make" *turns to the dwarf of the party* "How would you describe dwarven architecture?" How do you feel about that?   • Is there a magic society/guild/gathering/friendship group? I'm leaning towards magic not being institutionally taught, like Hogwarts, the Soltryce Academy etc but more taught through mentoring for wizards. There is a scholar -thing for research and knowledge but I'll have to think a bit on why…   • Just because I didn't allow specific races for you to start with, will it be a downer (?) if I introduce these races later on? Will it ruin the fun or anything if other than the eligible races were to play a part in the world in the future?   • How do we feel like making some magic or other things going bananas? (trying to be vague and not spoiler anything :D ) Like either forbidden or just when you cast certain spells they might go a bit wrong/weird?   Character creation RP wise: I don't care how you make the rp part of your character, if you want prompts to help you, I have a small and an extensive list, just let me know. I do try to use what you give me to make something fun for you and your character so it will probably be more fun for you if you do some backstory/rp related thing. But we can also figure it out in game.   Mechanics • How spooky can I go? Extra mechanics? No extra mechanics?   • More realistic rules for moving and attacking through ppl, like ppl standing on your line of sight is actually in the way? Idk how I feel about all these homebrew rules but I also think they sounds fun so..   • Critical Hits, Fumbles, Successes and Failures I feel like if 20 is a critical hit and have extra omph 1 should have it to but in the opposite direction? Ex wild magic table for magic (without the fireball or even more modified) and something similar for melee attacks?   • Death and Resurrections How do we feel about character death and resurrection? Only at particular places, freely avaialbe, potential to go wrong, specific ingredients, if we play dnd it's readily available as a spell but the ingredients might be rare or it has a habit of ending badly? Open question, I'm just curious, I'm running a no res in my frostmaiden game due to no diamonds available so thought I'd bring it up.   • Resting Rules Long rest is 10h with watches, everyone fine with that?   These are from the following link, check it out if you want to read the whole list From <https://www.reddit.com/r/dndnext/comments/601awb/session0_topic_checklist_and_guide/>   What did you like best from the old campaign/world/space?   What did you like the least from the old campaign/world/space?   Would you mind sending my your character concept/document/thing so I don't have to dig through miles of messenger chat for the relevant messages?   Have your lines and veils updated in any way?
