Session 007 - Too Many Orcs

General Summary

Date 11 to 13 Peonu 720TR (Spring)

Continuation of Session 6 - Visit to the Vineyard.

Objective

150 years ago Clan Chusselrin became fabulously wealthy due to its highly profitable vineyards and winery. The party has been employed by a descendant of the Chusselrin's to find out how they did it, and does it have any connection to the mysterious earthmasters artifact, the Heart of Tondran?

Story so far

The heroes locate the Chusselrin estate and investigate the large barn. Inside they deal with a small band of Gargu-Araki (Small Orcs) and some giant spiders.

The party decides to rest up in the barn among the remains of the dead spiders. Not long after sunset a small band of Gargu-Araki (Small Orcs) investigate the corpses. However, the party used deception to trick the Orcs into thinking the giant spiders killed their brethren and were still a threat. The Orcs stayed well clear of the barn.

After resting and recovering their strength the group made their way to the main building, encountering a small band of orcs returning from patrol. Impeded by light from the rising sun the Orcs were easily dispatched.

Entering the main building the group easily deal with a few small bands of orcs and then find a locked room. Inside was a badly injured man in a cage. Orman Ronsen, younger brother of Ailis Ronsen, Telen's master weapon crafter, explains that he was travailing with two guards to do business with the nearby Zinc mine when he was set upon by Orcs. They were captured, thrown into cages with the guards being eaten by the orcs over the last few nights. The party rescue him and give him a short bow, telling him to follow along.

The next room was the tribe’s 'treasury' guarded by a nasty spiked swinging log trap which badly injured Yureb.

Activation of the trap warned the Orc Chief in a nearby room who led most of the remaining orcs into a close quarter battle in tight corridors. The Orc Chief sacrificed his allies rather than taking hits, but all were eventually dispatched.

In the treasury, the players find some loot, mostly scavenged goods from the building. However, it was covered in a fine layer of fungi spores, which could cause sickness, but these are detected and washed away.

In the Orc Chief room the group find the heads of seven orcs and two humans dangling from ropes in the ceiling. Coins were hidden in their mouths and under the bed was a tattered but functional spell scroll.

Upstairs two small bands of Orcs remained, one waiting to ambush for the party and the other squabbling over what to do next. In both cases the party scared them away with a gruesome spectacle, using magic to levitate the Chief's head and illusions to make it make sounds.

In the cellar the last of the Orcs remained the Herbmaster and a few assistants. He flung a bag of blinding power onto Athena and Yureb followed up by bags filled with sticky acidic herbs. Then the Orcs attacked the blinded and dazed heroes. However, one of the Orcs was spectacularly cut in two by the blinded Athena, and eventually, the party prevailed, but it was a close battle. The last orc fled, but his head was dissolved by magic from Quazzy.
