Session 006: The Reckoners Report
General Summary
Commander Hadiya Najiri gave Midnight Squad leave to sleep & ordered them to return when they took care of their upgrades & purchases. They went to the barracks given to them near New Grakka's spaceport. Twelve hours later Midnight Squad came & stood before her for new orders.
She ordered them to go to an emergency broadcast station & to report on what was going on. This was due to being radioed from staff requesting to know when they could return to the station. Their was no record of any evacuation from that station.
Midnight Squad found an empty facility & started investigating.
After checking on the reception desk, & not finding anything of use on the computer. They split into three teams:
Team two checked out the server room finding a person dressed in mismatched uniform & worn in non-military standard. She was named, Chendwen.
Team three checked out the offices finding nothing of use on the computers.
Team two spoke to Chendwen & attempted to discover why she was there. She claimed that the station was empty when she arrived. When she tried to put in the new broadcast information, updating the evacuation locations & routes, she discovered that it was locked. She asked for help, though she seemed nervous.
Knowing that she was discovered she shot out the window, jumped out & ran away. A brief chase was attempted, though Crasian was able to bring her almost down. The were able to find a datapad that Chendwen dropped. On it they were able to find, a recording
A woman’s low, monotone voice intones, “The Reckoning is at hand. The wrath of the Swarm will soon descend upon those who would deny this system’s rightful rulers. They are the scourge sent to punish the wicked: no sins can be kept secret from the hive mind. This resistance is pointless. Suskillon’s military can’t protect our world any better than they could their own. The Swarm will consume all. If you want to repent and survive, join them. Join the Reckoners. Follow Sister Spark. Welcome the Swarm. Let this city burn."
Commander Najiri ordered them to take care of the Reckoners. the Reckoners: they are a fanatical group of New Grakkan citizens who believe that because of its sins, the Suskillon system deserves to be destroyed by the Swarm. The Reckoners existed before the Swarm’s first attack on Suskillon, though their dogma was vaguer at the time, simply calling for the city to end its sinful ways through confession and painful atonement. The Reckoners see just about any self-indulgent or even slightly lewd behavior as sinful, making even the most average and moral citizen a target for conversion. The organization was founded (and is still led) by a charismatic android woman calling herself Sister Spark, who claims the universe has shown her alone the pathway to be free from sin (which, of course, required sizable donations to the sect). The Reckoners hold regular meetings and provide their services in a small uptown building called Reckoner Hall. They decided to have Rivet & Ahnje get into the main entrance with the civilians, & had the rest enter from the back alley entrance.
Picking the lock they were able to get into Reckoner Hall, & were able to fight the many Reckoner Thugs that appeared. They found Chendwen inside, & Crasian was lit on fire. Negaflare took care of healing Crasian as he burnt several times.
After a long fight Chendwen was killed, Thisskt surrendered, & Sister Spark escaped. Ahnje shut down the projector & Rivet hacked the computer finding pictures (original & enhanced images of the swarm). With the controls for the projector within, Ahnje deactivated the projector.
In Sister Spark's quarters computer was:
- Files & recordings on blackmail officials & people
- A list of the people involved in the Reckoners
- Plans on sabotagingthe New Grakka Spaceport (a detonator & 6 grenades)
- a white unmarked key card
- 3,000 credits
Missions/Quests Completed
- Emergency broadcast station (learn what occured & solve it if possible)
- Infiltrate the reckoners & bring them to trial
