The Runes of Grimhammer

General Summary

The year was 6955 AD. Tumultuous movements and in some places open rebellion against the dragon Overlords had begun to spread in the lands that would soon become Scaelor. In these dangerous times, groups of adventurers had begun to take up work as smugglers and aides in different acts of defiance against the lords of their lands. One such party had just made their way to the edge of the Feyfire Forest. These were Agarall of a 1000 Verses, an elderly half-orc bard, with his young companions Acro-Karaa the socially awkward aarakocra bard of all of 3 years of age and Ekki Keki Zoom Boing the red hot raging kobold barbarian the senior at 8 years old. Together they were known as the adventuring group Crusheth Jaw. They had done several jobs as smugglers in the past for the farmers in the area, but this job seemed different. It was a call by a dwarven rebellion from the hold of Grimhammer inside the forest. Driven by a willingness to do good, they answered this call.    As they made their way through the giant trees of the ancient forest, they came upon a crossroad where three dwarves had been hung by the neck. After Karaa had cut them down, Agarall began to bury them. Meanwhile, Karaa flew up to speak with some nearby crows, who told them that it was the work of dragonfolk. The party was not discouraged by this, and despite them believing to hear signs of battle in the distance they pressed on. They soon came upon a skirmish in a clearing. The caravan of the dwarven rebellion was beset by green kobolds, led by a knightly green dragonborn bearing the crest of house Geldoth. The party sprung to action. Realising that the Dragonborn was their leader, they focused their first strikes on him. Karaa yelled a joke at him and the knight fell to the ground laughing, as Keki fell upon him in a frenzied rage, pounding with his hammer and smashing his skull into a pulp. But not before the knight had time to yell a command. As Agarall decapitated a kobold, two large wyverns appeared and began to attack the dwarves as well. The party switched their focus and with Agarall leading the dwarves, Keki crushing the leg and knee of one of the wyverns, and Karaa convincing one of the kobolds to fight with them instead, the group managed to claim victory.   The dwarves were extremely thankful and when they realised that the group was there to accept their request, they were overjoyed. The leader explained that the mission entailed them going to an old tomb, which now was the home of the high general of the Lady of the Forest, the ruler of the Feyfire Forest and Grimhammer. This general was known as the Iron General. But the dwarves scouts told them that this general was currently occupied far away. Inside they were tasked with retrieving some ancient scrolls that held the secrets of some dwarven runes that could be used to finally defeat the Lady of the Forest.   After giving it some thought they accepted and began to head north to find the old dungeon. When they arrived they carefully headed inside, yet still managed to trigger some traps and ended up fighting some dragonborn statues. Yet they still managed to find the keys they needed to enter the inner parts of the dungeon. There they found an old cupboard, some old corridors, and a trapped drake which was feeding on a fresh cow carcass. Finding themselves tired and running out of steam, they decided to leave the dungeon to take a breather. After enjoying a relaxing rest in Agarall's magical hut, they noticed an old man awaiting them at the dungeon entrance. He introduced himself as Belisarius Crawley, a nobleman in the pursuit of knowledge. He offered his intellectual services in exchange for protection inside the dungeon. The party agreed.   Making their way even further into the dungeon, they found the drake's meatery, as well as the library of the Iron General. They began to search the shelves, but there was no sign of the scrolls anywhere. On Belisarius's behest, they began to investigate the giant crystal that was lighting the room. Touching it muddled the mind of Agarall, but Karaa managed to find a magical pathway which could open a secret door. Keki, who had been sliding around the other room after being covered in magical grease, told them as much. Through the secret they found a treasure hoard, and on the far end of the room, they found the runes. But as they took the scrolls, Belisarius entered behind them and laughed. He thanked them for giving him the intel on what the dwarven rebellion was after but told them that they were now going to die.    Belisarius then took on his true form. That of a huge green dragon, the Iron General of the Lady of the Forest. Crusheth Jaw leapt to action. Keki tried to smash the knees of the dragon with his hammer, but it didn't even budge. Agarall realised that they had to flee and told his companions to run. Karaa, only three years of age, gave their best friends a last glance before they began telling one of their iconic bad jokes to the dragon. That's when Agarall and Keki managed to close the door behind them. With the time that Karaa bought them, they managed to escape and reach the dwarven rebellion. With these runes, the rebellion managed to finally launch a successful assault on Grimhammer. By surprising their liege when she slept they managed to bind her magically. Without their leader, the forces of Grimhammer fell and its dwarven population which had been enslaved, managed to leave, never to return. The Lady of the Forest is still there. Bound and unable to die, she is now guarded by a clan of Stone Giants. The former ruler of Feyfire Forest, the Lady of the Forest, the great dragon Niarvenax.
