Session IV : A Dead End? Report

General Summary

We open up on one of the Holds of the city, Heavens Gate Hold. Its white walls towering high into the mid morning day, guards move in and out with various orders. Panning inside the main gate we pass new initiates in training and up the stairs thru the front door. Down the halls we pass various rooms and Dining halls and up another set of stairs into an office. Inside its well furnished for its small space, a decent desk various boards and papers stacked neatly on side tables and on boards. Sitting at the desk we see a goliath who appears frustrated, a small pair of spectacles sit on his nose as he looks over a handfull of papers. A sigh escapes his lips as he rubs the bridge of his nose.
"Do you have any idea how much of a pain you are?" he asked as he looked across the desk. Sitting in a chair that was a bit big for her, she kept a straight face but appeared nervous Lieutenant Quill Nightingale.
"No...sir?" she said confused, not really sure why he would ask that.
"Do you know what this is?" he said as he shook the papers in his hand, the camera looked down at the papers to see the word 'Complaint' written on its header in large letters "Its about you, interrogating a citizen at his home."
Understanding she perked up " Oh, well his Business hours said that he was avaliable and I was following up on the Wilks case." she explained with a smile.
"Wilks case?" he asked, he now confused.
"Yes sir, the murder at the Acade-"
"I know what the case is!" he interrupted " why are you working it."
"its...mine." she confused again.
"Not anymore." he stated flatly as he picked up the letter.
"But sir if I can just find the Kobold witnes-"
Standing abruptly, his chair squeaked "I don't care about kobolds or a single wizard suicide." he spat out as his hands hit his desk " Now....give whatever information you have to the Violet Twins and pack your things. You're being transferred."
"Transferred? To where?"
"Filing." he stated as he moved from behind the desk and out of the office. Quill followed quickly, having to jog to keep up with him.
"You want me in the basement sorting parchment." she was shocked and scoffed a bit " But sir, I scored higher than anyone else here on the entrance exams, I've beaten everyone in my division for physical testing and I ha-"
"LIEUTENANT." the Major snapped as he turned and looked down at the human. Some of the nearby guards stopped what they were doing and paid attention " I don't. Much. CARE for what your scores said or how good you did BEFORE you got here..." he paused "You are here because the Commander put you here, as instructed by your father. Nothing more." Kneeling down he held out his hand " Now either follow orders or give me your badge." Silence as the two stared at each other before he rose back to his full height " BACK TO WORK!" his bellowed order echoed in the hold, turning he left without another word.
Quill, her face torn between rage and despair walked outside, in her mood she bumped into someone however before she could apologize to them they were gone. With a sigh, she sat down on the steps of the Hold and put her head in her hands. A small scrap of paper hangs from her jerkin, pulling it out the words 'Coins Keep. Wren. Gold Kobold.' are written on it.
One week later, Wren now freed from jail and under the custody of Quill met and arrived the Roost, Rooks tavern. She asked if someone could go and get Jun and Fin, a Kenku left. After a brief conversation the kenku returned with the pair and introductions were made. Quill then asked Fin what he saw the night that Wilks was murdered, what did the suspects look like and where did they go. Only to find out that Fin didn't know anything about how Wilks was killed, and her search had been in vein the entire time. Rook taking the moment to offer drinks of the officer and the party, Quill getting drunk quickly to drown her fear and sorrow that she had nothing to go on and she was probably going to be fired. After the meeting was finished, Wren took Quill to a tavern to sleep off her drunk-ness in the Theatre district.   Jun taking the opportunity to try and decipher the Black ledger, learns that needs another tome to translate the unknown language. Heads to the magic district finds a Magic Tome Shop the Pagemaster, run by a female Drow. Learning that she might have a book that could help she offered to trade the book to Jun in exchange for a favor in return from him. He agreed and acquired a book of Lavender leather with a large eye on both front and back cover which glows slightly with a faint purple hue.   Sigfried, now returned from his adventures and with a 'new' pet a large sugar glider, and Wren headed into the Halfling District to follow up with Meander and the missing children. Reaching the main home, Wren and Sigfried have a decent meal with Meander as they discussed what happened. Claus is very nervous around Meander and he just explains that all animals are like that. They learn that over a dozen kids were taken and that a musical tone could be herd as it happened, Sigfried thinking it some sort of Fae. Once the meal was finished and the information given, Wren and Sigfried head into the High Markets for a drink. Ending up in 'The Green Knight', the pair drink to their fill and even try the house special: Heart of the Forest - which taste different with each chug, one for each season.   Fin and Scuttle, go to follow up on one of the two jobs that Jun had found. A Kobold mine needed some pests cleared out and was willing to pay big for it. Arriving at Mineall Mine, the see two other groups of people waiting. Each gets interviewed and set away, not getting the job for one reason or another. The pair are questioned about various things 'any bigs in the party' 'any metal' once settled, they are hired on the spot and given pitch helmets and a guide and dropped down into the mine. The guide leading them deep into the rock, past all the other kobolds and various mining equipment. Eventually the guide departs as he says he wont go any further and points them in the direction of the creatures. Fin and Scuttle begin their investigations and find various seems of ore nibbled on or eaten all together, taking precautions they remove all their metal objects and hide them in their bags. Coming to a large room, the hear clicking and find a pair of Rust Monsters chittering away as the ce0hw on a vein of iron. With quick reactions the pair easily kill the two creatures and gather 'evidence' of their destruction, further investigation leads them to a nest of over two dozen eggs and pack away 17 of them. Pushing deeper into the mine they find it connects to a built tunnel of cobblestone. Following it down it leads to a massive room, in which Scuttle cracks a sunrod and throws it in. It falls over 200 feet before it hits the ground and bounces around illuminating a MASSIVE Draconic skull. Decidng to leave it be, the pair then head back up the other way and find that it leads to an exit near the God Claw Lake. Choosing to return thru the mine, they cover up the hole that leads to the Cobblestone tunnel and make their way out and get paid easily.
