Session IV: The Cursed Apple Orchard Report
General Summary
The party all elect to go to Brittholm together as a group. Their bond is indeed growing at a rapid pace. The lot of them are quickly developing a strong bond, as they've already fought a few battles together. They are all still ignorant to the shifting winds of a coming war; to them this is all just part of adventuring through a fairly unkown wilderness. As Ramsteed, Lugie, Miro, Medved and Maeve exit the Witchwood they come across the four pillar like statues that form a circle at the entrance to the Witchwood. Medved identifies the writing as something he doesn't understand, which means he wants to stay as far away from it as possible. The group agrees, and they decide not to stick around and pay it any mind. They continued and admired the beautiful scenery that the gods had given them to enjoy on their journey. Logee points out some of his favourite scenery as the party admires Tortoise Stream. The Pavillion Plains were far too beautiful for anybody to even think about ignoring. It was a country side that was always worth looking at. Some people would trabel far and wide just to enjoy that view. The trip to Britthollow was successful. As the party ventures forward, they end up noticing a basket on Ram's cart that begins to shift and shake. It turns out to be (check name in notes), the friendly halfling swashbuckler who was just looking for something to eat. He ended up eating all of Ram's dried jerky. The party decides that if (name) proves himself useful, he will be allowed to be left alive. If not, he will be fed to Medved. As Miro goes off to stay with his parents, Medved takes a steaming hot dookie on top of Miro's roof, and Ram makes a rather large pile of doodoo on the doorstep. This is just a fun little send off for a character that was not meant to be. Miro would grow to be a bit of a coward and a loser. There is a rain in the Witchwood that smells like sweets and chocolates and candies, and tastes like cotton candy. It turns out to yield a mild health potion if ingested. Upon returning to Grorr and her camp, the caravan is on the move. They come across an apple orchard that seemed quite peculiar. Maeve eats one of the apples from the seemingly dying tree and falls paralyzed. The apple trees come alive, their roots tearing from the ground to form large leg-like limbs and their branches forming into arms. Ram couldn't get out, but (Garrett) and Loogie do manage to make it out. Medved puts Maeve over his shoulder, using his tinder box to set one of the treeant's on fire. Using this as a que, Grorr orders her archers to fire flaming arrows into the orchard before herself and her foot soldiers rush in to finish off the treeants. As the party prepares to leave, a Birch Witch appears and seeks vengenace for the party killing her babies. The party teams up to fight the Birch Witch, with the fight ending when the party all gathers around and starts kicking and stomping her head in. "Mother, I've failed you!" She screeches. The corruption surrounding the apple orchard clears, returning back to normal. They notice, however, that the foot path off the main trail is still corrupt. They follow it, bringing them to a grotesque swamp. They fight a collection of Kuo-toa and display their best performance yet. Medved hits one of the Kuo-toa with a rock, causing it to have severe brain damage. They now have a pet Kuo-toa named Fishion (mix of fish and vision). Ramsteed is not happy about this, but he'll have to deal with this fact. The group identifies a snare trap and a homemade grave that says "here lies Sadie Branchmaster, who has shed her skin". They rig Fishion up to the snare and set it off, which causes three Birch Witches to come investigate. The party follows them to the cave hideout of Sadie Branchmaster, the night hag of the Witchwood. Our next session will start with the party gaining sneak attack. They will have to face three Birch Witches and the reanimated soul of Melgan Cloudroamer.
