Session 10: Terminus Station (Pt. VI) Report

General Summary

After a long rest, the party head on to their original goal and manage to salvage some hard-won documents from the darkmantle nest, although they're forced to retreat quickly when it becomes evident that a baby darkmantle may be floating around the room. As they quest, Misvari reveals her suspicion that Darrow, the guard captain, might have pointed them towards the lower levels in search of his old rival, Job, who disappeared 6 months prior. The party decide that, being pretty much entirely good-aligned at this point, they'll investigate; first, however, they offload their laudible supply of documents near the teleportation pad. Mica and Misvari stop the other two sending the documents immediately, as Mica wants to crack into the safe they found in the darkmantle nest before she gives it up.    With Misvari's expertise of basement 1, the party find the stairs with no trouble, apart from some giant spider webs which Mica expertly incinerates. At the base of the stairs, Gal's tracking skills finally find purpose in identifying an old camp left by Job. The party also note that the atmospheric conditions in basement 2 are markedly different from basement 1.    The party snoop their way into a kitchen which contains a highly suspicious, perfectly circular pool of clear water. Kriskain also notices that the dining room is filled with sand; by her and Gal's tree-hugger powers combined, they realise that they've entered the domain of a dragon. Despite, or perhaps because of this, Gal kicks down the pantry door with a bellowing "HAIL AND WELL MET", which scares off the giant spiders lurking within. Inside, Kriskain finds a variety of cured meats, which she selects samples of with the aid of Mica, while Gal and Misvari investigate a half-open cupboard. Inside, they find Job's pack, complete with journal, although not before Gal tries to wear it as a backpack for their backpack. Job's journal is only short, but confirms the draconic presence, and also suggests that the highly suspicious water is safe to drink...but also that the dragon can sense creatures within 30 feet of it. Kriskain decides to speak to the puddle. The puddle doesn't speak back, but Gal notices the floor warming beneath their feet, and the party play hot and cold back to the staircase, below which they find a hatch leading to basement 3.    The party drop down into a room so half-full of sand that poor Kriskain has to stoop. Kriskain, ever helpful, calls out a greeting to the dragon, and the party follow the dragon's voice into the central chamber. They find a large brass dragon on a hoard of magical objects, and also, in chains, Job.    The dragon turns out to be very...loquacious, and after getting half their life's story in under about 2 minutes, Kriskane offers to name them Henry, which they accept in delight. Henry is only about 3 years old, but the size of an adult dragon, which they attribute to having hatched right over the transporter pad. They've been keeping Job as a conversation partner, as they're otherwise very lonely. Misvari and Kriskain, between them, manage to convince the dragon to consider moving along with its hoard somewhere more public; the dragon agrees, but refuses to simply allow Job to leave, in case the party don't come back. Gal eagerly volunteers to take his place. The party leave, with Kriskain carrying the poor unconscious Mica, who had been overwhelmed by the magical aura of the hoard. They reach the pantry the level above in peace and start making plans.
