Session 6: Terminus Station (Pt. II) Report

General Summary

As the party shop, three guards approach to interrogate the currently-split party about a certain vending machine robbery. The Lawful Duo do as Lawful Duos do and cooperate, while Lomion and Val make like the guilty and scatter.   Lomion, finally doing ability checks within his area of expertise, removes his disguise in a masterful on-the-fly quick change in the lounge café, taking on a persona closer to her true identity, Billi. Val, on the other hand, reminds the other players and the exasperated DM of her true alignment and shoots an Eldritch Blast at civilians to create a distraction. To her credit (??), it does indeed distract the guards from the thief...aka Billi. Val, on the other hand, is forced to flee down one of the docking corridors, where she is summarily cornered against an airlock.   She does what all sensible low-level adventurers do when faced with three opponents beyond her level, and tries to fist-fight them. Unfortunately, Val is a fragile creature of a mere 8HP, and she bloodied before she can do any damage to the guards. She surrenders.   Meanwhile, Gal and Kriskain follow the orders given to them by the friendlier of the guards and head up to Inquiry level to await questioning. While there, they encounter a beardless dwarf trying to find the owner of Lomion's Translator's Spectacles. Gal, being the beautiful dumbass that they are, assumes that this good Samaritan is in fact Lomion's murderer, since Lomion has been out of sight for approximately three minutes. The dwarf introduces herself as Mica, and Kriskain immediately insults her by not recognising her as a dwarf. Once this little hiccup is overcome, Mica explains that she found the glasses in the café, which Gal takes as evidence that Lomion is, indeed, dead.   Speaking of which, Billi, who has been chilling in the newsagents, realises she's lost her glasses and heads up to lost and found to collect them. A very bored clerk redirects her to Mica, forcing Billi to "reveal" to her friends that she is Lomion in disguise (rather than admitting that she's in fact Lomion out of disguise).   Kriskain convinces Billi to return the stolen health potions from the vending machine as the guards return with Val in custody. Billi resumes her disguise in the stairwell, and then dramatically turns himself in, claiming remorse. He is waved through to join the rest of the interrogation in the security booth.   Kriskain spends the interrogation absolutely furious at the less scrupulous party members. Lomion holds to his word and returns the potions, but struggles to convincingly show remorse through the big hat and collar. He manages it by weaving a tragic sob story about being raised an orphan and becoming a kleptomaniac to cope. Everyone buys this because it's D&D and that's just like, standard backstory shit.   Once everything is returned, the guards point out that a punishment is still in order what with the whole unprovoked-assault thing, but offer the party what amounts to community service, rather than a fine. The party are to retrieve as many salvageable documents as they can from the dangerous lower levels, as the station is under audit and it's hard to justify expenditures when the past seven years of accounting are guarded by sentient fungi. They are also told that they'll be given a reward for anything they can get from Basement 2, deeper into the station.   The party agree, because there'd be no point to the game if someone wasn't down to dungeon. On the way out, Lomion and Kriskain overhear the head guard, Darrow, speak to a full-orc woman named Sherebiah. The significance of this is lost on them because Val doesn't know how to share. Lomion clocks her as trans; Kriskain clocks her as Like Kriskain Somehow. Lomion attempts to explain the concept of other races to Kriskain. As they exit Inquiry level, Mica is drawn into the party by sheer Wizardly Curiosity. Meanwhile, Kriskain flirts with Mike, who reciprocates, mostly in the form of trying to save her money. He offers to take the party's bedrolls and the like to the inn and also to put in a good word to get them free rooms, and finally gives her some potions.   Gal, delightfully, completely missed this subtext, which is #relatable.   Mike bids them adieu when they reach Basement 1, because he has like, real people work to do. He does, in a surprisingly smooth moment, manage to set up a date with Kriskain, assuming she gets out of the basements in one piece.
