Session 3 - Trouble in Town Report
General Summary
The Party had found and defeated Myron's murderer but the Professor expressed additional concern to what could be waiting around camp. The party accompanied Steve and Jim, two roustabouts of the circus, out towards the wood pile to gather more firewood. When they got there they saw snakes waiting nearby and let the heroes take care of them.
Once the snakes were killed the party suspected more danger down the path through the woods. They walked through the trap filled path and came across a clearing near the nearby stream where two mephits were being mischievous. After convincing the mephits their master was killed, they ran away leaving a backpack full of river stones, but more importantly clues. A map with key locations circled around town led the party into town to alert the mayor.
They party headed into Abberton to talk with the Mayor. When they found his house, he thanked them for bringing it to his attention and he would be happy to discuss things further in the morning with the party. The party then headed back to the local inn where they proceeded to get shitfaced.
In the morning, the mayor met them at the Inn and explained the troubles they had experienced lately: a wild boar attacking civilians that go near the orchard, the miller family going missing along with the sheriff, and the ire of many of the hermits of the Hermitage of Blessed Lightning. He assures the party that the leader of the Hermitage is quite nice but he doesn't understand why the townsfolk could possibly be blamed for the recent decline in the environment. He asks the party to loo into things after their heroics at the circus the previous night and thanks them.
Conveniently just as their discussion with the mayor comes to an end, the Professor along with his Sideshow of Everyday Wonders pops into the tavern looking for the party. The Professor explains he had sent the Sideshow into town to spread rumors of the heroes great deeds and to gain any sort of information on the town they could.
Hesper and Meitas had found out that the boar attacking people at the local orchard had a family of smaller pigs along with her.
Tahala had found the miller's house empty save for a hive of wasps that were behaving oddly.
Gidarron had discovered a local gang known as the "Mad Muggers" had been causing trouble at a nearby tavern known as the "Mad Mug". The Muggers apparently drank all day and caused trouble during the night to which the Sheriff had been trying to break them up to stop the mischief.
Cubby sniffed around the local church to Abadarand noticed the scent of rotting flesh and suspected something unnatural in the backyard.
The party decided to start at the church and headed there immediately. When they arrived they found the front windows smashed and sounds of destruction within. They looked inside and saw two demons wreaking havoc upon the church. After a confused beginning to combat, they fought and defeated the demons and found the priest-banker locked in the vault of the church. They released him and he told them that he had been attacked by the demons before he ran to the vault for refuge. The demons barred him in there where he had been locked for hours. He looked through his belongings and couldn't findsome of his most prized religious texts of Abadar, The Manual of City-Building and The Order of Numbers, and asked the party to retrieve them for him and he would reward them for their efforts.
The party headed outside to survey the cemetery where they found two masked men digging up graves. The men tried to dissuade them saying the bodies had the plague but the party ignored this request and began to approach them only to find the men were demonic worms infesting the bodies. They defeated the demons and found the bodies belonged to the Lindell brothers. They continued to survey the yard before they came across the Crypt out back. Inside they found another demon conversing with two fey creatures. The creatures immediately attacked the party. Will the party survive, though?
