The Show Ends but the Adventure Begins

General Summary

As Act 3 reaches it's stunning conclusion, the workers begin to set up for the Grand Finale until one of the Flamboni Sisters injures herself. She refuses to go on and the final act is left without one of its performances. Completely coincidentally, a performer many of the circus members recognize from their time in the Celestial Menagerie arrives looking to join the Circus of Wayward Wonders. Siegmund Heledirphen shows up just in time to fill in the missing slot and save the Show!
First the Dwarven Throwers go out there and start off strong but fail to keep up the excitement. In an attempt to make up for their downfall they make a risky move but it backfires spectacularly and the crowd isn't very impressed. Next up, the newcomer, Siegmund, performs his feats of incredible strength. He begins strong, falters in the middle, but then pulls through in the end to earn the crowds respect. Lastly, Venn shows off his alchemical juggling abilities. With the help of the clowns he is able to keep the crowd pleased and end the circus in an absolute success. The crowd erupts in applause as the Circus Critically Succeeds at their first performance.
Afterwards as the crowd filters out and the excitement of the show wears off, the memory of Myron's death washes over the circus and they begin to mourn his loss. The party inspects his body and discovers snake bites all over his legs and suspect Viper Venom as the cause of his death. Suspecting Emilia may have something to do with this, they confront her over it to see if she knows something about it. She explains to the party that someone clearly coerced the snakes to behave that way as vipers would never attack someone unprovoked. Farnham hints at Emilia herself being the perpetrator which she vehemently denies and gets clearly upset over being accused of harming one of her closest friends. The party apologizes and asks if she has any other ideas on who could've done this. She can only suggest that the person responsible is likely still nearby which terrifies her even more.
As the workers and performers head out to their campsite to settle down for the night, none of them want to leave the safety and community of the campfire as they fear Myron's murderer is somewhere in the campsite. The Professor asks the party to investigate the wagons since they handled the disruptions of the performance so well. He points them towards Myron's personal wagon to begin with. They go to the cabin and after their strongest members have a very difficult time with the wagon door they manage to rip it open only to be greeted by 4 strange plants that begin spewing balls of pollen at them. The party has a difficult time dealing with these plants, especially due to Siegmund not having his weapons or armor, but eventually destroy the plants and get them out of the wagon. They look through his wagon and find some personal mementos of his but nothing that would suggest him preparing to be attacked.
The party begins to investigate further into the campground after recovering a bit and come upon the wagon of the Kanbali family which happens to be locked. The party goes back to the fire to grab the key from the family but when they return to the wagon they find a distinctly dressed halfling who is accompanied by a swarm of rats and a giant rodent. She accuses them and the citizens of Abberton of destroying the environment and causing it's gradual decline. Siegmund tries to argue with her but she is beligerant in her claims and only gets angrier. They eventually fight and after the party recovered from some malevolently bad positioning from an unknown source, they were able to defeat her and her rodent companions. With the supposed murderer brought to a ceremonious end the party walked back towards the campfire.
The campfire was filled with odd music and the party returns to find everyone dancing in two concentric circles seemingly against their will. They discover two Fae had thought the circus workers were looking for a musical party and joined in without realizing their music was forcing everyone to dance unconsensually. They reason the Fae down from continuing their performance which seemed to offend them but they left without much fuss. After catching his breath, the Professor thanks the party for saving them and finding the suspected murderer but suggest they keep investigating the area just in case. A few roustabouts are going to gather firewood and he suggests they follow. The session ends with them going out to find firewood and whatever waits for them in the rest of the campsite...
