Foolish Assumptions

3841 0 0

There are some foolish assumptions I made as there are over 2000 historic professions that had to be sorted into main categories to make sense for the purposes of finding professions.

Animals

All professions containing animals will be in this section. Animals being used for Transportation reasons, however, will be found in the transportation section. This is the same for professions who process dead animals to make products will be under Manufacturing.

Arcane

Any Profession that is now known to be scientifically inaccurate, but not religious, such as an alchemist or dowser.

Death

Any Profession that is related to the dead or those to be condemned.

Education

Anything Educational, if your profession is training apprentices you will be here.

Food and Drink

As with the Animals section, anything to with the preparation of food and drink will be in this section, however, anything with hospitality will be in that section instead.

Management

Management of people, resources or Areas.

Manufacturing

Any profession that can’t easily fail into its own sector as with metalsmiths and metalworking, that is to do manufacturing will be found here.

Medicine

Any profession that is medical in nature while not being Manufacturing.

Metalsmith

All professions that deal with manufacturing something out of metal but is not finishing metal will be found in the metalsmith section. If the profession is about finishing metal items such as polishing or making the metal look antique will be in the metalworking section.

Multiple

Some professions have multiple definitions, by that, I mean that one profession means different things to different categories or that at some points the profession, as with Whitesmith, would be put into two categories depending on which part of the profession's history you are dealing with. So the below is how I will deal with these professions:

([Profession Name]) - ([Profession Category])

or with the second case

([Profession Name]) - Cont. - ([Profession Name])

Nautical

Any profession that is found under this section is still naval in nature but may not be military in nature.

Printing

Contains Journalists and reporting as well as anything with books and professions to do with Printing.

Textiles

Any profession that is making clothes. Shoes or other items, made of leather item will be in the leatherworking category.

Transportation

Anything that is the transportation of people from one place to another, or something to do with the technology.

Service

If the profession provided a service or was a servant to someone else, that is not hospitality this is the section to find it in. Any profession to do with mercantilism will be in the section for Sales.

Woodworking

As with the animals and food and drink section, any profession that works with wood will be under this section.
