Moon Elf

History

Moon Elves are the spawn of High Elves and Lunar Fey — Fey spirits and dryads that appear on the Material Realm only on lunar-significant days like full moons, eclipses, or blue moons. Moon Elves are the "middle child" of the elven races, coming after the origin of Wood Elves and before that of Sun Elves. While there was not exactly an animosity between High Elves and Moon Elves, it was clear that they differed in personalities and values. As such, the first Moon Elves decided to emigrate from the home of the High Elves to establish their own province in isolation from the other elven societies.   As the first two "subraces" of the High Elves, Moon Elves and Wood Elves share a special camaraderie with each other. When there are feuds between the races, they are almost always on the same side, which is often against that of the High Elves. The original Patriarch of the Wood and the Matriarch of the Moon were half-siblings, children of the first High Elven King at the time.

Culture

Moon Elves are a secretive people that typically keep to themselves within the Province of the Moon. The smallest of the Provinces, the Moon Elves also have the smallest population of the elven races. This has led to an extremely strong bond between their kin — there are rarely ever disputes between Moon Elves, who treat every member of their race as family. Those that travel outside of Gwynvera typically do so with at least one other of their kin, making it a rare sight to find a Moon Elf journeying alone.   As one would expect, Moon Elves are most powerful in moonlight and on lunar-significant days, when their Lunar Fey halves are at their strongest. Unlike normal Fey, Lunar Fey are less mischievous and more calm and collected. This is reflected in the typical personalities of Moon Elves compared to Wood Elves.   Moon Elf warriors become fearsome opponents on full moons, and Moon Elven spellcasters become incredibly powerful. Though the Province of the Moon has never been directly attacked due to its secluded nature and natural fortifications, the entire world knows it would be suicide to try anything at night, much less on a full moon. Ithildrin, the capital of the Province of the Moon, is located around a large circular lake nestled between two peaks which is filled almost perfectly with the reflect of the moon. This reflection creates a close connection, albeit an indirect one, with the moon. Full moons are times of great celebration for Moon Elves, as not only are they at their strongest, lunar dryads and moon spirits appear to visit their elven descendants.   Due to their fondness of the night, Moon Elves are near nocturnal. Much of their architecture and culture is based around reflections, which has resulted glass and silver to be among the most prominent resources used within Moon elven societies. Being accustomed to working at night combined with a classical elven training with swords and bows make it common for Moon Elves that make lives for themselves outside of Gwynvera to take up jobs as assassins, thieves, or monster hunters.   Moon Elves get along best with Wood Elves, are overall indifferent towards High Elves, and typically view Sun Elves as the "annoying younger sibling." Moon Elves find Sun Elves obnoxious and unnecessarily loud, preferring the peace and quiet of night.

Appearance

Moon Elves are typically the shortest of the elven races, typically being between five and six feet. They are the palest of the elves, and have jet black, white, gray, or in rare cases, blue or lavender hair. Their eyes are most typically gray or blue, with some being blessed with stunning purple eyes. Such elves are believed to be destined for greatness, and typically have closer bonds with Fey creatures, are built stronger, and have higher magical aptitudes. When in moonlight, they give off a very feint pale glow. When it is a full moon, the glow is stronger, and their eyes give off a faint light as well.
