Rare Evocation Requires Attunement
The bow, Failnaught, is typically wielded by well trained Bards, Rangers, Arcane Archers (Fighters), and Eldritch Knights (Fighters). It is believed to be crafted in the Feywild and was wielded by ancient Eladrin during the rift between Corellon and Lolth, but it and copies of it have been lost to time and have scattered across the Planes during the Elven Diaspora. It is a rare treasure hoarded by the finest of bowman and found in arcanic vaults of ancient libraries or in the hoards of Dragons. The bow only responds to those who have a touch of magic already in their blood and requires attunement to be wielded.
In appearance, Failnaught is made of the finest of mahogany and inlined with silver for decor in leaflike pattern. Unlike a standard Longbow which has one string, Failnaught has five strings. Also unlike a standard Longbow and rather than drawing the string, on Failnaught you play a single string and it launches not arrows but concentrated sound as missiles that can target individual creatures as an action and does 1d8 damage plus Dexterity Modifier.
In combat you can expend a charge on Failnaught, playing an additional string at the same time to make a chord, increases the damage by an additional 1d8. Failnaught has 4 charges and while wielding it you can expend 1 charge or more charges as an action to increase the damage of the attack. Each use of the Bow's extra ability expends 1 charge or more charges if more than one string is played, and Failnaught regains 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn.
When you expend one or more charges a wave of thunderous force sweeps out from the point of impact. A targeted creature and nearby other creatures that are in a 15-foot cube originating from the point of impact must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, those creatures takes an additional 1d8 thunder damage per charge used and are pushed 10 feet away from the point of impact. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn't pushed. In addition, unsecured objects that are completely within the Area of Effect are automatically pushed 10 feet away from the point of impact by the spell's Effect, and the spell emits a thunderous boom audible out to 300 feet.
Outside of combat, Failnaught can be used like a harp and will always give advantage in Performance (Charisma) checks. Playing the strings in this manner does not expend a charge, but the music it creates can be described as "hauntingly beautiful".
