Voodoo Doll Curse

Materials 1 simple doll (5 CP) or accurate effigy of the target (1 GP, or more depending on complexity and specificity)

While holding the material components in a free hand, the caster touches a living creature that is not a construct, that creature makes a Charisma saving throw against the caster's Spell Save DC, if an accurate effigy of the target is used as material components then the creature has disadvantage on this saving throw and extra effects take hold.   On a successful save the spell ends and an effigy is consumed, dolls will remain the caster's hand.   On a failed save the target's body is cursed and the material component is enchanted. A magical link is formed between the target and material component until the spell duration is exhausted or the spell is ended using an action. The link functions over any distance but is broken if extra-planer separation occurs. The curse can be removed by a 'Remove Curse' of the same level as the level the curse was cast at or higher, or by a Wish spell. Additionally, the enchantment can be removed by a 'Dispel Magic' spell of the same level as the level the enchantment was cast at or higher. Using an 'Identity' spell on the material component reveals it is an active component of the 'Voodoo Doll Curse' spell but does not reveal the target.   The magical link formed by 'Voodoo Doll curse' causes any instance of damage inflicted on the material component - that does not also damage on target - to first affect the material component and then be transferred as a separate instance of damage to the target. The link does not transfer movement or manipulation of the material component or conditions and statuses affecting the material component of the spell.   If the material component reaches zero hit points the spell ends, the material component is consumed and any excess damage is transferred to the target.   If the target dies before the spell ends and the killing blow was dealt by transfer of damage from an accurate effigy the target makes Wisdom saving throw against the spell caster's Spell Save DC. On a successful save the spell ends and an material component is consumed. On a failed save the target's soul leaves their body and is transferred to the effigy for the remainder of the spell duration. In the case where the target's soul is bound by magic to an instance of the 'Simulacrum' spell, an Iron flask, phylactery or any other soul capturing magic, the closer instance 'wins'. Each instance's distance is divided by the given spell's level, by 5 for common and uncommon magic items, by 7 for rare magic items, by 10 for legendary magic items, and by 25 for a phylactery.

At higher levels: When cast at 6th level, Voodoo Doll Curse lasts 1 hour. When cast at 7th level, it lasts 24 hours. When cast at 8th level it lasts 7 days. When cast at 9th level the curse is permanent.
