Freeholds

A ruin scavenger plucks through the collapsed building of a former family home in Old Pavilion. As the Half-Ogre woman wraps her meaty palm around the haft of an old, dilapidated thing, she hears the chittering hiss of a Kruthik threatening her with toothy maw bared, dribbling its inky green spittle. She rises and draws the heavy frame of her crossbow. This is her find, she's decided, she found it first; and it's time somebody taught this monster some manners.
The man in the bright yellow jacket heaves back with his block and tackle, pulling up against the eddy and drawing forth his net full of his haul. He swivels forward and yanks the mound of gathered, inundated dirt onto the deck with a thick plop, and he falls over just the same. His neighbor approaches and smokes his pipe, they talk for a while, but he doesn't help; it's not his business. The fisherman begins picking through the refuse, separating the oysters he'd been aiming for. He flicks his family's wand and cleans them with a spell, an old trick his 'ma taught him. He packs the rations into his bag and heads towards the market to bring in a day's wages.
He plucks at his elongated horn as he chews down his jerky. He's been camped outside of the cavern for three days. He looks over his bone-crafted weapons, his furred hide getup, the scarred wound on his dusky red hand from his first hunt. He says a prayer to The Last Giant. An amorphous thing moves in the hallow. He grips that bone axe in that dusky red hand. The Last Giant will finally grant him his prayers.
These are the adventurers of the Freeholds. It is a heavily mixed race society of those that reject the absolute rule of monarchs and lords. People from the Freeholds have a way of knowing when to go about their own business, and when to instead step in and protect their community. Barons of the Freeholds are careful not to tread upon the rights and privileges of their barony, for the people of the Freeholds govern themselves first of all.

Features

Holder's Disposition

People of the Freeholds get along just fine. You know the jargon, body language, and way people from the Freehold think. You get a +2 bonus to your rolls on Charisma checks while dealing with another character from the Freeholds.

Suggested Characteristics

Characters from the Freeholds are generally reserved, and more inclined to ignore a situation than to jump in and mind somebody else's business. One of these characters might purposely avoid contact with strangers, or attempt to quickly pay their way out of any stressful situation. However, when their personal freedoms are infringed upon, they show a blunt and potentially vicious side of themselves.
If ever there was a group of adventurers that could shirk the stereotypes of their background, it'd be the people of the Freeholds. Consider what brought your character to the life of adventure, are they a mercenary? Are they after magical secrets? Perhaps they're ready to taste the different foods of the world? The adventuring goal of a character from the Freeholds is virtually boundless in its possibility.
