Figurine of Wondrous Power - Amber Hive

Wondrous Item

Very Rare

General - A figurine of wondrous power is a statuette of a beast small enough to fit in a pocket. If you use an action to speak the command word and throw the figurine to a point on the ground within 60 feet of you the figurine becomes a living creature, If the space where the creature would appear is occupied by other creatures or objects, or if there isn't enough space for the creature, the figurine doesn't become a creature.
The creature is friendly to you and your companions. It understands your languages and obeys your spoken commands. If you issue no commands, the creature defends itself but takes no other actions.
The creature exists for a duration specific to each figurine. At the end of the duration, the creature reverts to its figurine form. It reverts to a figurine early if it drops to 0 hit points or if you use an action to speak the command word again while touching it. When the creature becomes a figurine again, its property can't be used again until a certain amount of time has passed, as specified in the figurine's description.
Specific to this item - As the name implies, it resembles not a creature but a creature's abode; a beehive set with rows of amber beads separated by bands of braided electrum wire. This exquisite little bauble is no bigger than a largish coin and can be pinned like a brooch to clothing. While it's on your person a subtle sweet aroma surrounds you (5' radius) and you gain Resistance to poison damage.

Activating the Amber Hive as an action - which includes retrieving/unpinning it, speaking the command word, and tossing it into the air in an adjacent space - causes it to dissolve into a buzzing cloud of spectral bees that immediately moves into your space and surrounds you in a yellow-and-black haze. While thus obscured you are granted 1/2 cover (+2 to AC and Dexterity saving throws), but suffer Disadvantage on any Stealth checks. This effect lasts for up to 1 hour, or until you dismiss it as an action. You may call up this swarm a maximum of 3 times in a 24-hour period (resetting each sunrise) after which it reverts to Hive from for 24 hours.

You may issue a command to the swarm as a bonus action, chosen from the list below. Performing any of these effects exhausts the item's energies, causing it to revert to Hive form immediately after the effect ends, remaining so until at least 1 hour has passed.

  • Mantle of Bees: Alighting on your shoulders, your swarm affords you protection as if under the effects of a Sanctuary spell (DC 12 Wisdom save). This effect lasts for up to 1 minute (10 rounds), and can be dismissed as usual.
  • Bee Vambraces: Your swarm envelopes your forearms, allowing you to add 2d4 piercing damage to one melee attack per round on your turn. Also, once per round they can inflict 1d4 piercing damage as a reaction to any foe that strikes you in melee combat. This effect lasts for up to 1 minute (10 rounds), and can be dismissed as usual.
  • Killer Bees: Your swarm exits your space (ending your 1/2 cover bonus) and forming into a spectral Swarm of Hornets in an adjacent space of your choice. As long as it remains adjacent to you it grants Advantage on your attacks, and can impose Disadvantage on one foe's melee attack as a Reaction. You can command it to attack a foe of your choice, but it will attempt to return to a space adjacent to you after doing so. The swarm lasts for up to 1 minute (10 rounds), it drops to 0 hit points, or is dismissed as usual.
