The Lost Lovers

Weapon

Rare Requires Attunement

Trick weapon (greatsword, twin longswords)

This lonely greatsword sings with the longing of lovers kept apart.

Trick Weapon. As a bonus action, you can switch
between the transformed and untransformed states of
this weapon. In its untransformed state, the
Lost Lovers is a lonely greatsword. In its
transformed state, the sword calls out to its love, giving some of its form to conjure a spectral echo blade in your off-hand; the weapon becomes a set of twin longswords. You may engage in two-weapon fighting when wielding these blades. Additionally, if you drop the spectral blade, it disappears after 1 minute, transforming the weapon back into a greatsword.

Untransformed. The lonely blade curses its victims with the agony of a lover's abscence. Whenever you curse an enemy (features such as Hex, Hexblade's Curse and Bestow Curse counts as curses), the blade sings, granting you advantage on your next attack against that target. If you make that attack with this weapon in its untransformed state and hit, you may transform it as part of that attack.

Transformed. The spectral longsword can be used as a spellcasting focus and grants you a +1 bonus to your AC as long as you are holding both blades. Additionally, when you slay a creature under the effect of one of your curses with this weapon, you may have the lovers embrace each other, crossing the blades across your chest. Doing so lets you cast Misty Step (no action required) immediately and transform the weapon. Once the weapon has been transformed in this way, it cannot be so again for the next minute.
