You brandish the weapon used in the spell’s casting and make a ranged weapon attack with it against one creature within 60 feet of you. On a hit, the target suffers the attack’s normal effects. On a miss, choose a second creature within range and make a ranged weapon attack with the same weapon against that creature. On a hit, the second creature takes lightning damage equal to your spellcasting ability modifier, instead of the weapon’s normal damage.   The spell’s damage increases when you reach higher levels. At 5th level, the ranged attack deals an extra 1d8 lightning damage whether it hits the original target or the second creature. This extra damage increases by 1d8 at 11th level (2d8) and 17th level (3d8).
