Shadow Mirror

Wondrous Item

Rare necromancy Requires Attunement

A large medallion, a bit larger than a human's palm, of black obsidian polished to a mirror finish. It was made by the adherents of a mystery cult dedicated to the Obsidian God, a dwarven god of violent death.   If someone not attuned to the mirror looks into it, they must make a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or take 1d10 of damage. In combat, if the mirror is visible (i.e., being worn as a pendant) everyone in melee must make a DC 10 Dex saving throw every round or accidentally look into it.   If a cleric is attuned to the mirror, they have advantage on their Turn Undead action (Channel Divinity) against any undead who can see the mirror. In addition, you can use the Turn Undead action a number of times equal to your spellcasting modifier before needing to rest to recharge.   Dedicants of the Obsidian God can try to use the mirror to talk to the God. If attuned to the mirror, this doesn't require a roll, but is dependent on the God having anything to say to you at the moment. A dedicant not attuned to the mirror must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw (as well as the separate roll to take damage). A person not dedicated to serving the Obsidian God can't use the mirror in this way.   If an undead creature is willing to pass over to the other side, looking into the black mirror will de-animate them and send them on their way, regardless of the cleric’s level, saving throws, etc. Good luck talking them into that.
