Wondrous Item
Very Rare
Just as a monarch of mortals has their throne, so too does a ruler amongst vampires have their coffin. This beautifully carved darkwood coffin is lined with silk and adorned with bone engravings that envoke the symbol of
Vecna, God of Evil Secrets. It provides the perfect resting place for a vampire (or vampire enthusiast).
- If a vampire rests in the coffin as part of its Misty Escape ability, the vampire regains 1 hit point in 10 minutes instead of 1 hour.
- While in this coffin, you need only 4 hours to gain the benefits of a long rest.
- Any hit dice you roll while resting in this coffin are treated as rolling their maximum numbers.
- After resting in this coffin, you gain advantage on saving throws against poison and disease as well as resistance to poison damage for the next 24 hours.
Curse. If a creature other than its vampiric owner attempts to sleep in the coffin, the coffin draws wisps of magic from the
Shadowfell to transform into an iron maiden. The creature must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw to escape before the lid swings shut; if the lid is closed when the coffin transforms into the iron maiden, the creature has disadvantage on this save. The lid then locks (as if by the
Arcane Lock spell). A creature trapped inside the iron maiden is restrained, under the effect of the
Silence spell, has total cover, and takes 5d8 piercing damage at the start of their turns. If this damage reduces a creature to 0 hit points, it dies and immediately becomes a vampire spawn under the control of the vampire who owns the coffin. The iron maiden has AC 19, 80 hit points, and immunity to poison and psychic damage. If the iron maiden is destroyed, it reverts into a destroyed coffin and the creature trapped inside is freed.
